IT IS HAPPENING TODAY SCARBOROUGH!
The Pub Grub Competition at The BellyRub Bar and Eatery on Victoria Road is officially on this afternoon, and I will be there helping judge all the entries!

I take my food very seriously, so if you are entering, bring your best recipes because I am ready to taste test everything. My dad has put entries in too, so we will see if his cooking actually passes the test or not.
Even if you have not entered, please come down, pop in, and hang out! Doors open to everyone at 3pm for drinks and to buy portions of the competition food. It is going to be so tasty, and it is a great excuse to support an amazing local independent venue while trying some brilliant homemade food.

Best of all, 100% of the sales from the competition grub goes straight to my Skillswithlils CIC Christmas Miracle fundraiser to help feed local people and families who need it this Christmas.

2:00pm - Entrants arrive

3:00pm - Open for drinks and competition grub sales

Please help my friend Bella and her family by sharing their GoFundMe 🙏

You all always support me but this year I'm asking you to help raise some money to help Bella. I've known her since I was 6. Ive always played with her and cuddled her. I'm so sad she's too poorly right now for me to see her.

She's being cared for at Martin House Hospice and it's such alot for her family to deal with. They just want to make as many memories as they can.

THROWBACK TIME! Look at tiny 6-year-old me! 😭👶👩‍🍳

My dad dug out this absolute gold from the archives, and I honestly can’t stop laughing! This was one of the very first cooking videos I ever did at just 6 years old—teaching everyone how to make homemade crispy chicken nuggets!

Listen to that serious opening: “Good evening, I’m going to show you how to make chicken nuggets.” I sounded like I was presenting the national evening news!

Even back then, me and my dad were all about keeping things budget-friendly, making our own breadcrumbs, and showing that cooking from scratch at home doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg (plus, homemade nuggets beat the freezer shop-bought ones every single day of the week!).

My technique was elite: dip in the egg, pile on the breadcrumbs, give them a good pat, and plonk them onto the baking tray. Simple!
It’s crazy to look back at little 6-year-old me in the kitchen and see where this journey has taken us since—from making chicken nuggets to running the Great North Run, reviewing local spots, and cooking hundreds of Christmas dinners for our town.

STOP SCROLLING, SCARBOROUGH! It’s time for some serious PUB GRUB!

Lils here, and I’ve got some absolutely egg-citing news that’s going to warm your belly! The legends over at The BellyRub Bar and Eatery on Victoria Road are hosting an epic Pub Grub Competition on Sunday, 1st November, and all the sponsor money and food sales are going straight to my Skillswithlils Christmas Fund! ❤️

Now for the big reveal... My dad has officially entered the competition. 🙈
He’s having a go at making his own pie AND a scotch egg! As the resident 13-year-old chef of the house, let’s just say I’ve got my pie on him to make sure he doesn't burn the kitchen down!
He thinks he’s an absolute culinary genius, but whether his pastry turns out crust-worthy or crumbles under pressure remains to be seen...

If nothing else, his confidence is truly egg-ceptional! 😂

Dad surprised me for my birthday, we ordered 2 bags and I finished the last of it off today.

Had no sauce with this one but yesterday's was immense 💓

POST-RUN REFUEL: Scarborough food tour edition!

After crossing that Junior Great North Run finish line and heading back home to Scarborough, me and my dad had worked up a serious appetite. Running miles on sore knees definitely earns you a feast!

We headed straight over to one of my absolute favourite local spots— TOPS Chinese restaurant Scarborough on Falsgrave! The service is always so lovely, and the food? Absolutely 10/10!

Here’s what I ordered to refuel:
🍗 Starter: Fen Chicken (unreal flavour to kick things off!)
🥭 Main: Mango Chicken (sweet, savoury, and so delicious!)

To top off a massive weekend, we popped into Xanders - Scarborough for a refreshing mocktail. It was the absolute perfect treat and the best way to unwind after such a busy, emotional, and unforgettable day.

There really is nothing better than supporting our brilliant local independent spots right here at home.
