Today, I have written to the Chair of North Yorkshire Council’s Strategic Planning Committee requesting the right to speak against Europa’s application at Burniston.

Local residents have been absolutely clear - they do not want this application approved!

What is frankly outrageous is that this decision has potential now to be forced through, not because it is right for Burniston or Scarborough, but because government has dragged its feet. North Yorkshire Council formally asked for clarity on whether proppant squeeze should be brought within the legal definition of fracking - yet Ed Miliband has failed to respond 🤯

That silence matters. Without action from government, councils are left exposed, communities are ignored, and big oil and gas companies continue to benefit from loopholes that everyone knows were never intended.

This is exactly why people lose faith in politics. Bold words about climate responsibility, but hesitation when it comes to actually challenging powerful interests.

As things stand, the Strategic Planning Committee is expected to meet in Scarborough on Friday 30 January to consider this application.

Scarborough and Burniston deserve better than decisions made by default ✊
