Sewcial Sewing Sewing Lessons | Fabric Shop | Haberdashery | Quilting | Patchwork | Yorkshire I've been sewing now for over 50 years and teaching for 9.

Teaching sewing has always been a dream and to have that dream come true has made me very proud. As long as it can be sewn I can teach it, my passion is dressmaking, but I love patchwork and quilting. Something I never show is the lingerie I make! I now teach every Tuesday night (except some school holidays) at St John's Community Centre, Pen*stone. This is for every ability and type of sewing. In October 2023, I proudly opened a fabric and haberdashery shop here on the heart of Pen*stone.

Here I am in the shop in Pen*stone piecing my latest pattern.

This Sunday I am running a workshop on curved patchwork and this is going to be the free pattern given out to the delegates.

All the pieces are together and today I will be quilting them. Luckily for me it is going to be cooler than last week when I was quilting the temperature quilt.

Fancy learning curved patchwork, then there are places available, call into the shop or book online.

At last, it's finished!

All fabric for the quilt is Makower Spectrum (kits are available)

I am wearing the Etta dress from Merchant and Mills, made from navy Ramie, both the pattern and fabric is available from Sewcial Sewing

This Faux leather has a wonderful feel and drape.

Would be great for all sorts of projects, but I am going to test some with our Two Tone Bag pattern.

What would you make?

Remember this?

This is the 2024 temperature quilt. Yes, you read right, 2024! Most of the top (the individual flying geese) got finished in the first week of 2025. But then life got in the way, I lost my sewjo and it got put in a box.

But it was never far away from me, and when the feeling was right, I got it out and finished it. Yes, during the hottest May on record I was quilting and binding a quilt!!

All fabric used was Makower Spectrum and unlike 2026, 2024 was cold!

Enjoying the warm (hot) weather?
Needing to have cooling clothing?
Then look no further than the fabric we have in stock here in Pen*stone, Sheffield. We have luxurious linen viscoses, matching Ramie, and plenty of Broderie Anglaise to compliment.
A plain gypsy style skirt in Ramie and a loose T-shirt made from Anglaisie has got to be the way forward for this summer.
Come take a look, we are open again tomorrow Wednesday 27th from 9am.

Remember I said I was going to show you some of the fabric that arrived yesterday? Well, I got so busy in our beautiful little fabric shop in the heart of Pen*stone that I forgot to take pictures.
Anyway, the first I want to highlight is the 8oz denim called Norma Jean. It is two tone and this one is blue and green. I have teamed it with the Paynter Jacket and the Chore Jacket from Merchant and Mills. The flash of green will look great with either of these. As the fabric has 3% spandex in it, giving it just enough stretch, it will also be great for jeans.

Do you agree? I certainly do. Here at Sewcial Sewing in Pen*stone this week we have received lots of fabric. Today I am hoping to label it and put in on the shelves, but before I do I'll photograph it and put it on here.
But, be warned this fab pic is not for your stash, as soon as you see it you'll want to make something from it.

Were you inspired by the Mystic Fable fabric that has arrived in our lovely fabric shop in Pen*stone?
Well, Alexia has designed two patterns for this collection. One is for a cushion cover featuring the house motive and the other has 3 sizes of quilt to use the panel fabric.
I am certainly going to play around with the panels, maybe make a small quilt and a couple of tote bags. What would you make?
Call into the shop, feel the fabric and take a look at these wonderful patterns. Did I mention the patterns were free?
