What happens when two award winners catch up at Egham on Toast? Mostly giggling.

Last week, Nicola (owner of Egham on Toast) and I both came away from the Spelthorne Business Awards with something shiny to hold. So obviously we had to get the awards out for a photo.

This isn't our first collaboration. We started with a furniture painting workshop, which was brilliant. Then last year we ran Bubbles & Baubles, which was a huge success. And it's back by popular demand. Bubbles & Baubles returns to Nicola's café on Friday 27th November.

I spent this morning with her and honestly, we were ridiculous. But we also reminded each other of something important. We're both juggling a lot: family, businesses (more than one, in both our cases) and everything in between. It's so easy to forget to enjoy it all.

So we made a pact: whatever we do together, it has to be fun. That includes this event.

More details are coming later this week. For now, just know it involves bubbles, festive crafting and two women who don't take themselves too seriously.

Wednesday 21 October is shoe upcycling day at my kids' autumn craft camp. They can paint, stencil, decoupage or decorate any pair: outgrown, unloved or a bargain from the charity shop. Or make shoe ornaments instead.

Sunday at the studio and I'm packing up with the biggest grin on my face (as you can see).

What a week. Still floating after the Spelthorne Business Awards and I'll admit I've positioned those awards very deliberately on the chest of drawers so I can catch sight of them every time I walk past. Subtle, I know 😂

Next to me are some of the shoes you've upcycled with me lately. Every pair started out as something tired or forgotten at the back of a wardrobe and now look at them. That gold fringed pair makes me smile every single time. And yes, that's my little stencilling on the table top, because I can't leave a plain surface alone.

It's been long, it's been busy and it's been genuinely lovely. Thank you to everyone who came through the door this week, sent a message, or cheered from the sidelines. It means more than I can say.

Now the plan is simple: lock up, go home, feet up and maybe a proper Sunday dinner with all the trimmings. I can practically smell the roast potatoes from here.

Meet Louise.

She's a local artist, a brilliant printmaker and such a good friend. We've known each other for years. We go camping, we walk the dog and we've helped each other build our businesses along the way.

Louise loves cyanotype and mindful art and she knows lino printing inside out. So when I decided to run a Christmas card workshop, there was only one person I wanted to teach it.

She'll show you how to carve your own lino design, then print it. You go home with five handmade cards and envelopes, ready to send to your friends and family. A mince pie and a cup of tea or coffee are included.

Two dates: 7 November and 5 December. It's £45 a head or £40 early bird.

Eight friends. Forty years of friendship. One 70th birthday.

Penny booked my Heels and Bubbles Shoe Decoupage Workshop for a friend's big day and the group has known each other so long that their kids all went to school together.

Bubbles on arrival, bubbles all evening and a lot of laughing. I'll admit the fizz did its job very well by the end of the night 🥂

And the shoes? Look at them. Every pair is completely different and completely brilliant.

Here's what Penny said:
"A really novel way to celebrate a friend's birthday. Eight of us had a brilliant time, Jacqui was a great teacher and made the event really good fun and we all managed to produce some wonderfully redesigned shoes. Her studio was the perfect venue and the fizz kicking off the evening was a real bonus."

Happy 70th to the birthday girl and thank you all for such a fun night.

Lino Print Christmas Cards
Friday 7th November & Friday 5th December

We're very lucky to have local artist Louise Anderson joining us to guide you through carving and printing your own design. You'll leave with five hand-carved, handmade cards (envelopes included), ready to send to the people who'll actually appreciate them. Mince pie and a cuppa on us. £45 (early bird £40).

🥂 Bubbles & Baubles
Thursday 27th November at Egham on Toast, Staines

A festive, craftive evening of making baubles, coasters and gift tags, glass of bubbles in hand. Bring your friends, your Christmas jumper and absolutely no pressure to be "arty." £35 per person (early bird £30).

That's my favourite bit. Not the finished pieces (although they're brilliant), but the kids who arrive a little unsure and leave clutching something they made out of what would've been rubbish.

October half term EcoKids Craft Camps are coming up at the studio in Shepperton:

Mornings are a proper make: jewellery, autumn wreaths, pine cone decorations, upcycled trick or treat bowls and painted plant pots for growing pumpkin seeds. Full days carry on with free-choice crafts, games, quiet time with books, and a walk and picnic by the Thames. The ducks at Shepperton Lock have come to expect us 🤪
