A little splash of colour for your Sunday 🌿💗

If you’re out exploring the Open Gardens around Shepton today, why not make a day of it and spend some time discovering the town too?

The shop is looking particularly lush at the moment, with plenty of beautiful houseplants, handmade pots, botanical gifts and greenery to browse.

Whether you’re looking for your next plant, a thoughtful gift, or simply a quiet moment away from the crowds, we’d love to see you.

Plant of the Week 🌿
Cycas Revoluta - Japanese Sago Palm

Not quite a palm, but something far older.

With its dramatic crown of stiff fronds and prehistoric appearance, the Cycas feels more like a living fossil than a houseplant. Slow-growing, sculptural, and quietly striking.

And even better - these beauties are British grown 🇬🇧🌿

A plant for those who like their greenery bold, architectural, and a little ancient.

Available in store at 21 High Street đź–¤

Workshops & gatherings at The Black Thistle đź–¤

Our space has always been about slowing down - plants, conversation, and time to make or learn something new.

We’ve got a series of workshops coming up, alongside a special talk with , whose work will also be the next exhibition in The Rising Gallery, opening 12th May.

Whether you’re joining us for a workshop or coming along to the talk, these sessions are all about taking a little time out in a calm, plant-filled space.

Taking a little pause

I’m going to be closing over the bank holiday weekend (Saturday–Monday) to rest - it’s been a very full on few weeks and I’m feeling it. Time to listen to my body and take a few days.

Will be back open Tuesday, fully rested and revived 🌿

Thank you, as always, for your kindness and support đź–¤

Hello… we’ve been a little quiet 🖤

There’s been a lot happening behind the scenes lately — the kind of work that doesn’t always make it to social media, but keeps everything ticking along.

But! A small (and very satisfying) update — our new signage is finally up ✨

It’s starting to feel more and more like home at 21 High Street 🌿

Open Tuesday–Saturday

Folklore Friday 🤍🌿

The snowdrop — Galanthus — is one of the first brave souls to bloom at winter’s edge.

In folklore, snowdrops symbolise hope, renewal and quiet resilience. In Victorian floriography they carried messages of consolation and new beginnings.

And this weekend, with the Shepton Snowdrops in full swing, they feel especially magical.

If you can’t make it out to the gardens, we have a little snowdrop beauty in store:

🤍 Snowdrop greeting cards by Larkbarrow Studio
🤍 Snowdrop-themed tealight oil warmers — perfect for soft, winter light

A small nod to the season of awakening.

Meet the Artist 📸

A Somerset-based multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of fine art photography, portraiture and music.

Currently exhibiting 'A Liminal Dialogue' in The Rising Gallery, Roscoe’s work inhabits the space between the mythic and the visceral - collapsing the distance between representation and living form.

His photographs explore shadow, texture and the fragile space between stillness and movement - inviting you to look twice, and then look again.

Based locally in Shepton Mallet, his practice is deeply rooted in British landscape and culture - which makes this exhibition feel especially at home here.

Plant of the Week 🔥
Monstera Burle Marx Flame

Not your average Monstera.

With dramatically elongated, flame-like fenestrations, this rare beauty feels sculptural - almost prehistoric. Slow-growing, architectural, and undeniably striking.

A plant for the collectors. For the ones who like their foliage bold and a little bit wild.

Available in store at 21 High Street 🌿
