Just dropped off my contributions to the Town in a Tin project The Makery .

The brief was to create a piece of art celebrating Shrewsbury - all inside a sardine tin!

Of course, mine had to be plant related! I’ve create 2 pieces - ‘Botanical Discovery’, a tiny living terrarium inspired by Shrewsbury-born Charles Darwin, and ‘Within the Loop’, a miniature hanging Kokedama set against the familiar loop of the River Severn.

I had a lot of fun making these - something a bit different from my usual terrariums!

All the finished tins will be exhibited at Shrewsbury Market Hall from 17 - 31 August as part of Shrewsbury Arts Trail and then sold to raise money for Perches House Restoration Fund.

Wondering what to bring? Any of your favourite plants, propagations or cuttings would be perfect as long as they are healthy and pest free.

If you don’t have any plants to swap, you’re still more than welcome to join us.

Tickets are just £6 which includes light refreshments so book your place now and come and enjoy an afternoon of plants, swaps and planty chats!

Kalanchoe ‘Pink Butterfly’ - back by popular demand!

If you’re not familiar with this cute little succulent, it’s known for its lovely pink colouring and the tiny plantlets that grow along the edges of its leaves and look like little butterflies.

From the Hoya linearis that love a bright spot, to Philodendron micans and Scindapsus ‘Silvery Annie’ which prefer lower light, plus larger Philodendron Brasil to add some impact and tiny Pilea depressa if you only have a small space.

After the success of our last event, we’re excited to be hosting our next Plant Swap at The Hive, just round the corner to The Garden Room, giving us even more space to swap plants, chat and enjoy an afternoon with fellow plant lovers.

Bring along your healthy houseplants or rooted cuttings, find something new for your collection, share tips with other plant enthusiasts and enjoy tea, coffee and cake while you’re here.
