Sew Sunday: Episode 9
Latest Gemology Block

This week's hour at the sewing machine and cutting table was spent working on my latest Gemology Block.

One of the things I'm enjoying most about this project is seeing how each Gemstone cut looks in different colours and sizes. Every Block feels a little different even when I'm following the same overall pattern.

As always this reel is a one hour session captured on time lapse, then sped up. It might look like it comes together quickly but every seam, press and trim is part of the process.

Slow progress is still progress and this Block is one more step along the Gemology journey.

Sew Sunday Episode 8
Trimming & Binding

Today's sewing session was all about finishing touches, trimming up two quilts and finally putting the binding onto my Mum's 70th Birthday quilt.

Trying very hard not to reveal too much yet, but I'm completely in love with how this one is turning out.

Sneak peek of a very special quilt.

I finally got this quilt back from the long arm quilter and I'm obsessed with the texture and detail in this stitching.

Trying not to reveal too much before the full finish, but this quilting deserved a moment of appreciation.

A big thank you to Watson & Thornton for quilting this for me. I will be back with another quilt very soon.

Sew Sunday: Episode 7 - Eurovision Edition

Sew Sunday looked a little different this week.

Cross stitching + watching Eurovision = perfect chaotic cosy combo.

A few stitches a lot of opinions on the performances.

So.... here's why
I'm doing 10 birthstone colours instead of 12.

December's birthstone is blue topaz, which ended up being very similar in fabric colour to March's aquamarine.

And for June.. the options are alexandrite or pearl. The book didn't give fabric suggestions for alexandrite (since it can be so many different colours), and I found it surprisingly tricky to pin down.

In the end I realised I was making a lot of blocks already and simplifying to 10 colours just made the whole project feel more achievable.

Sometimes you have to adapt the plan to make it work.

EPISODE 6: Sew Sunday: Latest Gemology Block

A little bit of chaos, a lot of stitching and one step closer to bringing this project to life.

Sundays are for sewing, ripping, going to church and trusting the process.

Diving into the scrap pile for this one.

This is block 6 from Karen Brown Just Get It Done Quilts Jelly Roll series and it felt like the perfect excuse to use up some of those saved pieces.

There's something so satisfying about turning scraps into something beautiful.

Every little piece gets its moment.

Sew Sunday Episode 5

An hour in my sewing room captured on time lapse. Working on Block 6 from Jelly Roll series, using my scraps.

There's something so satisfying about watching all those saved pieces come together one seam at a time.

Just a little sneak peak for now. I'll

Gemology β€” Month 1 πŸ’Ž

Here are the blocks I’ve made so far:
4 sizes, 10 colours (birthstones β€” not 12, explanation coming πŸ‘€), and working through all 9 gemstone cuts.

Taking this one slowly β€” aiming for about a block a week πŸͺ‘. Currently ahead of schedule, was aiming for 4 this month, managed to do 5 and start a 6th.
A long way to go, but a good start ✨
