Slight change of plan, picking Xanth today, packing this morning with the whole crew and stall open.

Otherwise same as previously wrtten. Closed this afternoon, closed Saturday, picking Dahlia, Zinnia anybody a few Alstroe tomorrow.

05/10/2026

Availability.

More Alstroe than expected today, 50bunches other than the orders of which around half are still available. Dahlia sold out, 6 Zinnia left.

Afternoon sales are usually slow so there may be a few bunches left for tomorrow, but not many, then nothing Wednesday. Thursday I'll pick the first Xanth, also Dahlia, Zinnia, and I'll give the Alstroe a quick going over to pick any I think will be too open next week. Depends on Xanth numbers, but I predict there'll be flowers left for Friday.

Friday Availability - or lack of! It's become pretty clear that all the Alstroe and Zinnia I pick tomorrow will be needed for the Harvest Festival order. That means all I'll have for the stall will be 10-15bunches of Dahlias, and maybe a single small bunch of Anemone.

Next week I'll swap to a single Alstroe pick a week, which next week will mostly be needed for the pub order. After that though there should be alstroe available again, but just Mondays. Xanths will be available from the end of next week.

This brief update will replace this weeks Growing News as I've spent the week w**ding, and there's no way of dressing that up to make it even mildly interesting.

Availability update.

Even fewer than I'd expected, and with a relatively large Harvest Festival order on Friday, so I won't be able to pick and open the stall again till Friday.

Growing News

A lovely weekend away, but that means the cold store starts the week on empty. As I anticipate fewer flowers even than last week I'm going to run out regularly, so opening times are hopeful rather than realistic, with my expectation being few if any in the afternoons. Picking schedule is as follows.

Monday - Alstroe (most will be needed for orders) and Dahlia
Tuesday - Zinnia
Thursday - Dahlia, Alstroe
Friday - Alstroe, Zinnia

Xanth start in two weeks, all being well.

18/09/2026

Sold out again. Back Monday.

Picking again tomorrow but there won't be many.

Availability.
I doubt there'll be more than 200 bunches in total all week, of which alstroe will be the most numerous. Zinnia and Dahlia are on the decline, and whilst I'll try to pick Statice and Aster my expectations are low. Xanth are still at least two weeks away, but they're coming along nicely.

Despite the lack of flowers it's been a productive week with lots more planting done and I almost finished the latest round of w**ding in the alstroe. So far planted are the Sweet William, Anemone, Iris, butterfly ranunc and half the normal ranunc. Two weeks off till the next Ranunc planting, a month till the last of them go in, by which time The foxies should be ready to plant too. Campanula, Larkspur and Delphinium may take a few weeks longer.

It really feels like I'm making progress in my goal to take Sundays off from October as all that's left to do is w**d the old Freesia, w**d the Daffodils, Eucalyptus, first Ranunc bay and Anemone, clear the Aster and Straw Flower beds. After that it'll be another round of Alstroe w**ding. Not forgetting 200m of hedge that needs trimming. Just as well there's not many flowers to pick!

Now for my Sunday roast, but a final reminder of the new opening hours starting this coming week, with the addition of Tuesday afternoon of for a dentist appointment.
