New in — an 18th century mahogany tripod tilt-top table, circa 1750–1770.

A lovely mid-18th century example with a circular dished top, finely turned pedestal and elegant cabriole legs terminating in pad feet.

The mahogany has a beautiful warm colour and attractive figuring, with plenty of age and character throughout. The table has had some historic repairs and the tilt mechanism is a later replacement, all part of its long working life.

A really versatile piece that would work well as a side table, lamp table or occasional table.

Just arrived at Hendles Hoard…

A striking late 19th-century country house-style armchair, retaining its original tapestry upholstery.

Designed in the Jacobean Revival taste, with a tall upholstered back, scrolling open arms, barley-twist supports and stretchers, and a richly carved front rail.

The original tapestry upholstery has a wonderfully aged, timeworn character and sits beautifully against the dark timber frame.

A substantial and highly decorative statement chair, full of period charm.

19th Century Dutch Marquetry Walnut Wall Mirror, circa 1860

An elegant Dutch wall mirror with a beautifully figured walnut frame, decorated throughout with finely executed floral and foliate marquetry.

The deep mitred frame has a rich, warm colour, while the naturally aged mirror plate adds further character. A striking decorative piece that would sit equally well within a traditional or contemporary interior.

HOLOPHANE

A growing collection of original Holophane prismatic glass lighting, now gathered together in the shop at Wrest Park.

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to find these original shades in any quantity, particularly matching runs with their galleries still present. Finding one or two is one thing; finding enough for a kitchen, restaurant or larger interior project is quite another.

We currently have a good selection of sizes, including E60 and E100, with multiples available. Selected examples have been professionally rewired with new UK-made S. Lilley lampholders and traditional twisted flex, ready to hang.

Available individually or as runs.

The shop is open today, 10am–2pm.

The centrepiece of the room.

Sometimes it’s nice to stand back and actually look at everything together.

Pieces from different periods, made by different hands and for completely different purposes — furniture, studio pottery, lighting and all the little things in between.

Individually they all have their own story, but I rather like seeing them jumbled together like this. It’s what makes the shop feel like Hendle’s Hoard.

A beautiful collection of eight original Holophane E60 prismatic glass shades, each measuring approximately 15.5cm diameter.

We have four available with original Holophane galleries, stamped HOLOPHANE – PAT No. 28498/15, with a further four E60 shades available with new sympathetically styled galleries.

Rewired in mahogany-coloured 3-core twisted flex and fitted with new S. Lilley UK-made lampholders.

A wonderful matching run of six original Holophane E100 prismatic glass shades, each measuring approximately 20.5cm diameter and paired with an original Holophane gallery stamped HOLOPHANE – PAT No. 28498/15.

Each light has been sympathetically rewired using mahogany-coloured 3-core twisted flex and fitted with a new S. Lilley UK-made lampholder, while the original galleries retain their beautifully aged patina.

A wonderful glimpse into Edwardian country life.

Dating to around c.1900–1915, this large period photograph captures a gentleman out shooting, shotgun in hand and his faithful gun dog sitting alongside.

Likely an early gelatin silver photograph, it remains in its handsome dark wooden period frame with a beautifully aged wide mount. At 69 × 53.5 cm, it has fantastic presence and would look right at home in a country house, study or boot room.
