Lovely to see some of my makes featured here, I hope it's the start of a really successful partnership. It's much harder to get to craft fairs now alongside a full time job so it's going to be great to sell through another local small business and still showcase my work.

I'm looking forward to summer in this cold weather with funky campervan fabric in this hanging tidy, ideal for a bit of extra storage....you could even take the campervans in your campervan.

I've been asked a few times recently if we make memory bears and the answer is yes, we do and that they don't just come in bears! With this in mind I've compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions about them….

What kind of Memory Bears do you make?
There is currently the option to have bears, dogs, cats, owls, rabbits, ducks or a standing up dog. I can source a different animal pattern for a small extra charge so if the animal you're looking for isn't listed, please ask and I'll do my best.

How big are they?
They all sit around 18 inches high with the standing dog a little bit smaller, from nose to tail!

What finishing materials do you use?
They are all stuffed with a commercial grade 100% polyester stuffing, the same as is used in most bought cushions and pillows and usually I make the eyes & nose from the buttons of your garments so that everything is used however safety eyes are available on request.

What clothes and fabrics do I need?
Ideally a woven fabric like a cotton shirt, denim or similar however all fabrics can be used with the exception of knitwear as this will unfortunately unravel in the sewing process. Knitwear can be used to make cushions though as this can be done without cutting the fabric.

How many items of clothing do I need?
Each bear will need the equivalent to one adults garment sized 16 or man's medium or larger. If you are using clothing from a more petite individual, you will need to supply two items of clothing per bear. Some people choose to use more than one garment per bear and this is fine, a total of 4 garments can be incorporated into any of the animals.

How long will it take?
The average waiting time is 2-3 weeks depending on my current workload. If you require your bear for a specific occasion please let me know when ordering and I'll do my best to accommodate that.

Aren't they just for funerals?
They really are suitable for any special occasion, not just in memory of someone who has passed away, we've previously done ones for a graduation, christening, wedding, pet memorial and as an office decoration! They can be made for whatever occasion is meaningful to you/ your recipient. They are however a commemorative, decorative item to celebrate a special occasion and are not designed or intended to be used as children’s toys.

What on Earth am I making?

I only wish I knew! I've decided to take an a quilting challenge in my spare time and join a mystery quilt-along so I'll get a different piece of the puzzle each month to sew which link to a different chapter of a mystery story and hopefully form clues as to 'who did it'.

So this is something to do with Vikings, beyond that.....I really do have no idea!

A memory bear doesn't have to just be a bear, we can do a range of animals to suit the recipient or a connection with your loved one.

Please note these are commemorative items, not toys and are not designed for children to play with.

How is Patchwork Treasures becoming More Sustainable - Part 2

By using as much reclaimed or recycled fabric as possible! And using ethical options where that isn’t possible

What do we mean by that? And Where does it come from?

1. Our peg bags, aprons, oven gloves and anything else that requires a heavy duty, harder wearing fabric comes from a wholesaler in Lancashire who specialises in diverting fabric from Landfill. So the majority of this is fabric that has been rejected due to issues with the digital printing process and there are white areas within the design. The original client has rejected it and unless it is reclaimed would end up in landfill for what is often a small imperfection in the printing.
2. Pieces that are too small to sell - I buy up bundles of offcuts and remnant pieces in lightweight cottons where the pieces are beneath the minimum size to be sold by the metre anymore and therefore have initially been classed as waste by my supplier.
3. By reusing the leftovers from other projects - we aim to have zero fabric waste so offcuts from larger projects are often repurposed into smaller items before any residual tiny pieces are mixed into the stuffing bags so that nothing is wasted.

It isn’t always possible to obtain specific designs in recycled fabrics so I do also purchase some new fabrics. Wherever possible these are natural fibres to reduce our plastic consumption and they are all OEKO-TEX certified which guarantees they have been grown and manufactured without using 100 chemicals which are harmful to human health. As well as being better for us, this limits pollution of farmland, rivers and streams as well as reducing the risk that animals are exposed to these toxic chemicals.

It is possible to source some designs in organic cotton on request if you would like to guarantee an even higher environmental standard.
