“IT FEELS LIKE I'M GETTING A TATTOO”
Logos are literally EVERYWHERE. You can get one for free by going to a logo maker software, making something up in half an hour, or paying a design agency anywhere from a thousand to hundreds of thousands for one alongside a lot of thinking, strategy, and experimentation.
I’ve been a designer professionally for 9 years now, and this is the first time I’ve had to create a logo for myself. It’s HARD. I’ve been around the houses with this one, scrapping perfectly good designs because they didn’t have enough meaning for me personally. So I thought I would explain how I got to the finished (maybe) piece. It feels like I’m getting a tattoo…
Ever since I was young enough to pick up a pen, my wonderful family and I have been drawing, painting and taking photos together, which led to a fascination with typography and calligraphy.
Upstream Living is about YOU, and inspiring you to challenge the ordinary, be brave to be you, and do the S**** you love to do.
So we start with a ‘U’ shape in calligraphy. (slide 2)
The U shapes create waves as we start to think about the outdoors, the ocean and the coast. The joys of surfing, skating along the coastal paths, and generally seeing everyone in the BEST moods. (slide 3)
But the best moods (especially being from England) are when the SUN comes out. It changes EVERYTHING for most people. I think you can compare it with the excitement of Christmas, but instead, the gifts are warmth, and getting some much-needed Vitamin D.
That leads us to the sun shape. Been done before right? Many times. But it has so much meaning to me, and I’ve landed on this as the final piece. (slide 4)
