The hardest part of renovating is never an individual decision.

It’s managing the constant stream of decisions, uncertainty and second-guessing.

I see it all the time. Smart, capable, strong women who can run businesses, raise families, manage complex jobs and juggle busy lives suddenly find themselves defeated by a bathroom tile decision.

Not because they’re bad at making decisions.

Because they’re making hundreds of them while still carrying the mental load of their day-to-day lives.

A few rules can really help with setting boundaries, creating a support network, and allowing some self-compassion.

And remember the goal of a renovation is never perfection. You’re creating a home, not a Pinterest Board.

Let me know in the comments what reno rules have helped you through a project 💕

What usually happens when you want colour (but you’re a bit scared of it). ⬇️

Step 1. Paint walls neutral (because it’s safe).

Step 2. Buy neutral furniture (because it’s safe).

Step 3. Try to add colour with accessories, but undercommit and end up with a few cushions that feel a bit random.

Step 4. Feel disappointed with the room and lose your confidence.

BUT here’s an alternative approach ⬇️

Step 1. Paint walls a dark but muted colour. Nothing bright, nothing scary. Just a soft, earthy, liveable colour.

Step 2. Buy neutral furniture.

Step 3. Add some tonal variations of your wall colour through some accessories.

Step 4. Enjoy the impactful but effortless room you have created.

One minute you’re a perfectly capable woman.

Next, you’re paralysed by two shades of beige.

It’s not just you. It happens to ALL of us, and it’s not your fault.

It’s your brain massively overreacting to the indecision; treating it like a life or death situation 😂.

The only way to shut it down is to make the decision!

What decision are you going to make? Let me know 👀

Your instincts are often smarter than your overthinking 👀

Yes, be practical.
Yes, do your research.

But don’t ignore or forget that positive gut reaction when something clicks.

That feeling is often the clearest sign you’re on the right track 💜

Save this for your next project and follow along if designing your home stresses you out, I can help with that 🙋‍♀️

It’s June, how is it still raining? 😭

I love my neutral kitchen, most of the time. But when it’s been raining for months on end, I find myself reaching for the colour charts 🫢.

I know I’ll love it again when the sunshine arrives (we’re due some this afternoon apparently). Anyone else want to redecorate when it rains endlessly?

Just a reminder that if you feel...

- You shouldn’t be finding your renovation so hard.
- You should have made more progress by now.
- You shouldn’t have made that mistake.
- You should have been able to do that yourself.
- You shouldn’t be taking so long to make that decision.

It’s not you being bad at this.

It’s you comparing yourself to unrealistic online expectations.

Renovations are hard. It can get overwhelming, and you will make some mistakes.

But remember, you are creating a home, not sitting an exam.

Try to enjoy the journey, you’re doing great!
