🎉New Community Mosaic Unveiled at Leigh Library Gardens 🎉
Local artists Paul Siggins and Emma Perry brought the community together, adding lasting beauty to the gardens and its rich heritage.
The Mosaic Studio, led by acclaimed mosaic artists Paul Siggins and Emma Perry, has proudly completed a stunning new mosaic installation for Leigh Library Gardens, bringing colour, creativity, and community spirit to the heart of Leigh-on-Sea.
The project began when The Friends of Leigh Library Gardens approached Paul and Emma to help create a unique mosaic feature for the front garden - covering an area of nine square metres. Keen to make the piece truly reflect the local area, the artists hosted a public design workshop, inviting residents of all ages – including pupils from the local school – to share ideas, inspiration and submit drawings.
“From the very beginning, it was important that this mosaic was designed with the community, for the community,” said Paul Siggins, founder of The Mosaic Studio. “We wanted everyone to
feel a sense of pride and ownership in the finished work.”
After gathering a wide range of suggestions and wonderful drawings, Paul and Emma produced several design options for consideration. Following some early funding challenges, a final
design was selected – one that captures the unique character and spirit of Leigh-on-Sea.
The mosaic was then handcrafted by The Mosaic Studio team, with every tile placed by hand. Hosting a second workshop in the community centre, members of the public and local schools
were invited to place some pieces into the mosaic - making lasting memories and contributing to the legacy the mosaic provides. The result is a vibrant, durable artwork that not only enhances
the gardens but will also serve as a lasting symbol of local creativity and collaboration.
“This project was especially meaningful for us,” said Emma Perry. “As lifelong residents of the area, we were honoured to create something so special for our home town. Seeing the community come together and the design come to life has been incredibly rewarding.”
The new mosaic is now on permanent display at Leigh Library Gardens and will be officially unveiled on the 19th of September 2025.
