THIS WEEK’S NEWS FROM REBEL & ASHBY 😂

First things first, we HAVE to talk about the weather. On Monday I was sat in the garden enjoying the sunshine, and by Wednesday I had the heating on. Make it make sense! 🤦‍♀️😂

Other than experiencing all four seasons in one week, here’s what’s been going on…

🎂 Mr R&A turned 60! Yes, the man behind the unpaid deliveries, box unpacking and Saturday help is officially 60. 😂

🎄 Christmas deliveries have started arriving! Which is a huge relief because I left ordering everything so bloody late this year. Nothing like keeping yourself on your toes!

📋 A mountain of admin has been tackled. Honestly, I deserve a medal. Or at least a large cup of tea.

✈️ And finally… HOLIDAY TIME!

As I write this on Sunday morning, I’m packing for my holiday, waiting for the house and cat sitter to arrive, and preparing to do something quite radical…

LOG OFF. ACTUALLY LOG OFF. 😂

It’s been a long time coming and some proper R&R is very much needed.

So, I’m off to swap shop chaos for holiday mode, and I’ll see you on the other side… (of my holiday, obviously! 😂)

Look after yourselves, and don’t get up to anything I wouldn’t do!

We’ve had SO many people recently asking for things we’ve sold out of.

We’re a small shop, so I don’t buy in bulk and I don’t always restock things once they’re gone.

I’ll always tell you how many we have and whether more are coming so please ask.

But if you love it and you need it…

Buy it when you see it.

Otherwise you might be back tomorrow asking “Have you got any more?”

And I’ll be saying… “Nope. Sorry.” 😬

WEEK 11: INTRODUCING & MIXING PATTERNS

Right. We’ve talked about paint colours.

Now let’s make things slightly more terrifying…

MIXING PATTERNS.

Because apparently putting more than one pattern in a room is enough to make some of us panic and reach for the beige.

But honestly, mixing patterns is one of the easiest ways to make a room feel more interesting and, importantly, like you actually live there.

The trick is not to have every pattern shouting at the same time.

A few things that help:

Start with a colour.
Pick one or two colours that appear across the different patterns. They don’t have to match perfectly. They just need to get along.

Mix the scale.
Don’t put three tiny, busy patterns together. Try one big pattern, one smaller pattern and maybe something really subtle.

Mix the type of pattern.
Stripes + florals. Checks + spots. Geometric + something a bit more organic.

They don’t need to be from the same collection. In fact, they’re probably better if they aren’t.

And finally…

Don’t overthink it.

Your house is not a show home. Everything doesn’t need to coordinate like it’s been approved by a committee.

If you love the cushion, buy the bloody cushion.

If it looks good with the curtains, brilliant.

And if it doesn’t?

Move it somewhere else. It’s a cushion, not a marriage.

The big one… I FINALLY placed my Christmas orders. 🎄

Well… some of them anyway 😂
But decorations and baubles are officially on their way, so we’re getting there!

🎄 Planned the Christmas launch event — so put 3rd November in your diary RIGHT NOW. You’ll want to be there.

💸 Paid my VAT bill.
Always a fun one. 🥲

☀️ Enjoyed the sunshine and sat outside the shop front drinking tea for hours. Honestly, I could get used to that! I blame my friend Julie for being a bad influence on me

👜 Had a very real and VERY vivid dream that I’d opened a vintage designer shop full of gorgeous handbags and designer clothes.

Now… is that because I’ve been looking at vintage bags, or is it a sign? 😂

And finally…

☕ At the time of writing, I have NOT spilt tea down myself this week.

I’m calling that a win. 😂

🍂 Right, apparently it’s autumn.

The shop got the memo anyway.

The weather? Not so much. 😂

The pumpkins are out, the acorns have arrived, the autumnal candles are doing their thing and we’re very much in that awkward summer → autumn → Christmas transition.

And October is a busy but VERY short month for us.

We’re closed 12th–20th October, then it’s straight into getting everything ready for our Christmas launch on 3rd November 🎄

So if you want your pumpkins, acorns, cosy candles and all the autumnal bits…

This is your sign.

We don’t have loads of everything, so if you see something you love, don’t leave it too long.

Because before you know it…

🏡 Interior Tip | Week 10

Right, let’s talk about colour.

Because I think we’re all a little bit scared of it. 😂

There isn’t a right colour or a wrong colour.

If you love it, you love it.

Start by looking around your home.

What colours do you keep coming back to?

Maybe it’s a cushion, a painting, a vase or even the colours you wear.

That’s probably a good place to start.

And you don’t have to go mad.

If you’re nervous, don’t paint the whole room bright pink. 😂

Try a cushion, a throw, some artwork or a rug.

Even a little bit of colour can make a big difference.

And please don’t feel like everything has to match.

A few different shades can work really well together.

In fact, if everything matches perfectly, it can look a bit too perfect.

If you’re thinking about painting, get some tester pots.

Paint a decent-sized bit of card and look at it in different parts of the room, at different times of day.

Colours can look completely different depending on the light.

And if you hate it?

Paint over it.

It’s only paint. 😂

Choose something you actually love looking at.

That’s usually a pretty good place to start.

And if you’re still not sure, start with a cushion.

It’s a lot easier to change than a wall. 😂
