It was 18 years ago this month that we opened our little workshop in Staines. Prior to that, we'd been working from a shed in our back garden, and then before that, it was a shed in my mum and dad's garden (have always loved a shed 😄). Anyway, we bit the bullet and went for it when we saw this was available. It wasn't the most convenient time as I'd just had my second son at the beginning of the year, so I definitely had my hands full! Anyway, sometimes you just have to seize the day!
We've been lucky enough to have some quite prestigious commissions over the years, and it's all been made here.. complete organised chaos if you ever come in, but it works for us 😊

This one received a glow up recently ✨️ Swipe to see some of the damage.
There were several cracks, some of which we left, particularly in the lettering, as it kind of adds to the character. The amount of yellow that came off it (presumably years of to***co staining) was amazing! Some of the old glass is really lovely and came up a treat.
Why is this making me nostalgic for standing in a smokey pub?..we must have been mad 😄

Thinking of autumnal colours for . I just love the glow you get through these Frank Lloyd Wright inspired panels we made a few years ago. The warm shades add another dimension to the elegant geometric lines.
A stylish addition to any room (she says trying not to sound like some sort of 1970s furniture catalogue 😉) 🧡✨️

A simple Art Nouveau style panel we made recently as a companion piece to some windows we made a few years ago.
We picked out one of the central motifs and scaled everything down (will try and do a post showing both)
I never get tired of Art Nouveau! It's such a versatile style. Geometric certainly has its place, but I do love the organic sweep of an Art Nouveau curve 👌

As the hot days of summer start to fade, I was reminded of this seasidey panel 🏖⛵️. This family portrait was one of the most nerve-wracking commissions I've ever had to do!😄
This piece was to go above a living room door as a fun reminder of happy times spent at the family's favourite place, Southwold. A kind of picture postcard of their holidays.
I worked closely from photos to get the likenesses just right, but it was still a very nervy experience. Thankfully, they were delighted!

This week's installation was this 1930s style ship that we made to replicate the original, which was in a bad state of repair. The original won't go to waste but will be re-purposed.
I was really pleased to see how well it matched with the existing sidelights ✨️
I always wonder why there was such a fascination with ships and windmills in this era, particularly as the houses are usually nowhere near the sea! They are such a common theme 🤔

And now for something completely different..
We made these 13 panels last year for this huge stained glass window in Hampton.
We finally got round to photographing it, and we were thrilled to see it in-situ!
From laying out the drawing on the floor of the local church to the final install, it was quite a journey, but well worth all the hard work.
The frame was expertly made and installed by SURREY WOOD PRODUCTS .
I'll try and do a reel soon as well.

I was having a bit of a clear out at the weekend and found this picture of me from around 1996/97, so I was about 23/24. It was at the first stained glass place I worked and met my future husband (see second pic, so young and fresh faced!)
Anyway, I thought it would be a good excuse to introduce myself to our new followers. My name is Susanne (Sue, Susie, depending where or when you know me from), and I've been making stained glass windows for 30+ years. I set up my own studio in 1999, and my husband Michael joined me a couple of years later.
I chose the name Artemis as I've always been drawn to nature and organic, nature inspired designs. The goddess Artemis seemed to embody this.
We live and work in Staines (now Staines-upon-Thames, we've gone up in the world!) We're a stone's throw from the river which is lovely and we've made many a river inspired window over the years. We have two sons who aren't remotely interested in stained glass (which is probably a good thing 🤣)
We've worked on a huge variety of windows from the sublime to the ridiculous. Probably the weirdest being a dung beetle complete with dung (!) and the most prestigious being windows for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee at the Guildhall Windsor.
Michael also worked on the rose window at York Minster after the fire in 1986. It was one of his first jobs as a young apprentice. His funniest commission was a window for a farmer depicting his prize bull. On seeing the finished panel, he asked for the bull's balls to be made bigger!! (It was prize-winning after all🤣)
Well, that was all a bit long, but I'd say the sublime to the ridiculous and anywhere in between is a good place to be!
