Happy Now Ruz to all our Persian followers today 🌺

The first day of spring and a day to celebrate hope and renewal🍃. In every Persian household a special cover is spread onto a carpet or table. Sadly so many families are separated once again this year but we can still mark this fabulous ancient tradition at home and stay connected through calls & messages ❤️

This ceremonial setting is called a Haft Seen- literally “seven dishes” - each one beginning with the Persian letter “S” or “siin”. The number 7 has been sacred in Iran since antiquity, and the seven dishes stand for the seven angelic heralds of life - rebirth, health, happiness, joy, patience, and beauty. The symbolic sabzeh or sprouts, usually wheat or lentils, representing rebirth. Apples represent health and beauty. Garlic represents medicine, sumac; the colour of sunrise, vinegar; age and patience, eggs fertility, the candles enlightenment and happiness.😀

Nowruz "promotes values of peace and solidarity between generations and within families," the United Nations says. It's a time of reconciliation and neighborliness, "contributing to cultural diversity and friendship among peoples and different communities." 🍃

Michael and Eve of Montpellier Natural Stone have sold thousands of their multiple award-winning fireplaces up and down the land over the last 24 years, living up to their social media hashtag name of . During this time, they have worked with some of the finest showrooms in the UK and Ireland.
The couple had already announced their retirement in a previous issues of Fireplace Specialist as well as their intention to put up the remainder of their natural marble and limestone fireplace stock up for sale. The decision to accelerate the process was prompted by Michael being diagnosed with a brain tumour last July which turned out to be malignant. As Eve explains: “Our world was overturned in an instant. The future we had imagined was obliterated. Even so, the show must go on. We have continued to run the business in the interim through Michael’s subsequent treatment and have been fortunate to have placed tranches of stock through our stockists but it is increasingly difficult and we need to move faster to close the business. We would like to make the best of the time he has left and not fret about work. If we can offer advice to anyone it is: “Don’t put off the fun stuff. Make time to do the things you enjoy.”
Each one of Montpellier’s fireplaces which have won the company multiple awards is designed by Michael and has been individually hand-carved from solid blocks of pure marble or limestone with the final polish done entirely by hand to give the distinctive Montpellier finish. He set up the production units and supervised the training of the gifted stonemasons who brought his visions to life. Michael and Eve’s wish is for every one of these precious fireplaces which encapsulate their meticulous workmanship, and Michael’s characteristic attention to detail to find a happy home.
