Right. Nobody panic. The first Christmas box has landed and we opened it immediately, because of course we did.

We promise not to mention it again for a while. Probably.

Too early, or secretly delighted? Be honest 🎄

Autumn starts today, and so does World Letter Writing Day, which feels like the universe telling you to put the kettle on and write to someone properly.

These Pigeon Posted sets are the whole thing in one: you write on the inside, fold it, stick a stamp on it, and it posts itself. No envelope to lose. There's a notebook for the person who has been saying they're writing a book for four years, a pocket one for plotting something more sinister, and pencils for anyone who reads more than they sleep.

All of it beats a text.

Who are you writing to? ✍️

It's a bank holiday down south, which means Stirling is busy and we are very much open. 10 to 6 as usual, kettle on, shelves restocked.

Up for the day and not sure where to start? Tell us who you're buying for and we'll point you at the right shelf.

We see it every day. Someone comes in for a birthday card and leaves with a candle, a notebook and a small ceramic thing they absolutely did not need. No judgement here, we're worse.

What's the last thing you bought "for someone else"? 👀

Five things in the shop just now and not one of them over a tenner. Chopsticks that makes Tuesday takeaway feel deliberate. Little cat chopstick rests. A bottle opener shaped like a sardine, which lives in its own tin. A ceramic fish vase with its mouth open, waiting for one stem. And a pair of pumpkin spice latte salt and pepper shakers, because autumn started this week and we are not strong people.

Which one are you having? 🧡

She wrote Jolene and I Will Always Love You on the same day, gave away millions of books to children who had none, and never once pretended to be anyone other than herself. She will be hugely missed 🧡

It's National Dog Day, which around here is just an excuse to point at the shelf we already love most.

A sausage dog cushion, coasters that say "I prefer dogs to people", a mug with a small dog waiting at the bottom of it, Dog Mum socks, an ice cube tray that turns out dachshunds, and a Snoopy who is quietly stealing the show.

For the four-legged member of the family, or the person who won't stop talking about them.

Go on then, show us your dog in the comments. We'll wait. 🐶

Meet this week's staff pick. Kirsty has gone for the 70cm Miffy, which is less a soft toy and more a flatmate. Light pink terry, properly squishy, and roughly the size of a small child.

In fairness, she did warn us she loves a cuddle. We've got one left at £130, and if 70cm feels like a commitment, Miffy comes in three smaller sizes from £20.

Who else has a thing in the shop they're not-so-secretly hoping doesn't sell? 🙋

Kind words like these make the whole week. Thank you to everyone who shops small with us, and to the team who make it look easy.

Who's the most thoughtful gift-giver you know? Tag them, they've earned it. 🧡
