Nostalgia is a friendly family run business established in 1976. We have the largest collection of reclaimed fireplaces available in the UK with about 2500 antique fireplaces dating from the Tudor period through to the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian eras (1550-1920). We also stock and display a wide range of period interior features such as lighting and bathrooms.

Watch as I apply the finishing touches to a large Victorian cast iron fireplace that was in our workshop last week.
Im using traditional black grate polish, A.K.A. black lead (don’t panic there is no lead involved, it’s graphite!) It has been used on cast iron fireplaces for over a 100 years. Easy to apply, easy to maintain and if prepared and applied correctly gives a beautiful finish highlighting all the fine cast iron detail.
We offer several different finishes on our cast iron fireplaces but this is by far and away our most popular and if you stick it out to the end of the clip it’s not hard to see why 🖤

Dating to 1900-1905. Complete with all their original parts. Perhaps some questionable tile choices, but we have plenty of other original sets that can be fitted instead.

When fireplaces come into us fully painted as this one did, I just can’t help but get straight to dry scraping the paint off to see what beautiful tiles some philistine has painted over. I have to admit the process is almost as satisfying as the result! 🤩

We’ve done hundreds, possibly thousands of fireplace restorations, but every once in a while even we take a step back and say WOW!
When this Victorian fireplace came into us, it was certainly ’unique’. Covered in glass beads, crazy paint and even a rams skull!
Now it is an elegant, balanced and a truly wonderful example of a completely original mid 19th century fireplace once more.

How beautiful are these tiles? 💜💚💛
Dating to circa 1900, hand painted and produced by Pilkington, one of the late 19th century’s premiere tile manufacturers.
The colours are simply gorgeous.
