Following on from the Foo Dog stencils posted yesterday may I introduce you to our Staffordshire Terrier or Wally Dog stencil? Actually, I was looking for one of our many Pug Dog stencils seeing as it is International Pug Day and who wouldn’t want to celebrate the Pug? However, the Wally Dogs came up in my photo library first. So, here they are. They were stencilled onto cotton cushion covers.

The starting and mid point of the Foo Dog stencilled fabric that I showed a few days ago. Fold the fabric in half to find the centre point and work symmetrically from there. The paints are acrylic and washable on fabric.

Sometimes I want a colourful cheerful project to warm the winter months and these canal art stencils might be just the thing to help. At the moment I’m thinking of decorated buckets and planters filled with bulbs to give to garden friends but there are so many surfaces that could be decorated in the barge painting style! If you change the bright colours for pastels it gives a more Northern European look to the decoration. We designed the collection in the early 1980s, we still make the stencils. And all the pieces in picture 2 apart from the plate are still in use. I broke the plate!

Here’s two blue foos for your delectation. Our Foo Dog stencil has been stencilled onto a linen cushion cover from IKEA UK I folded the cover in half and made a crease, that crease became the central line to work from. The motif was aligned with the centre crease, it was stencilled and then I flipped the stencil over and used the reverse side for the facing motif, again this was aligned with the centre crease. The ‘DO2 Foo Dog’ is a multi layer stencil and I chose to paint them over pattern of flames stencilled in a vivid red acrylic paint.

One of our room sets from the last century, before Ai images, before we even knew how to use Photoshop. We painted and stencilled all our room sets and had a garage full of furniture and props. We still make the stencils and still have a garage full of props.... which are often borrowed by the local drama groups.
