History of Art Lecture // Wilhelmina Barns-Graham & the St. Ives Group.
Saturday 7th March
11am-12pm
Studio One, Jackson’s Art Stroud
Wilhelmina or ‘Willie’ as she was affectionately known, moved to St Ives in 1940 just after the outbreak of war.
She writes on her diary upon arriving in the town, “The stars were too close to the moon,” describing the heavy rain and east wind.
She later became a key figure in the modernist movement alongside Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson.
Her depiction of ‘elemental energies’ glaciers and later her vibrant abstracts will all be uncovered in this hour long illustrated talk.
If you fancy a trip to St.Ives, please come along! Sit with a cup of tea and take it all in as we share our love for art history with time for discussion if anyone would like.
Tickets are £15 available on my website (link in bio) ✨ Really looking forward to forward to welcoming you
