In these difficult times, Lavenham small business owners will be getting dog, baby and partner sitters in whilst they keep their shops open until around 8pm on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, to help you buy those special Christmas gifts before Thursdays lockdown. The likes of Amazon, eBay etc, won’t suffer, so please come and shop local to keep the essentials of our village in business for you to enjoy in the future. Stay safe and thank you in advance of your support.

It’s a good thing to wish for more hours in a day isn’t it? Today I felt like the one man band....my song was a bit out of tune...trying to play all the instruments at once....think I’ll just play one each day. The Rocker taking better shape with the outer back panel ready for stitching and the ancient dining seat needs a bit of tlc.....once again, nearly there!

This last week has been a bit of a whirlwind, but Lavenham Upholstery is coming together slowly! My buddy Jackie Miller has amazing natural talent for dressing things up and window display, so the shop is beginning to look just as we imagined.....still a bit messy though! More upholstery stuff to go on show, but the unusual French and European wares and Annette’s beautiful shades, adorn the retail space. The thought, time and provision gifted to me by Priscilla Elford needs more gratitude than I can give. I am very lucky to have this shop and two incredibly generous friends by my side. Officially opening on 1st October 2020.

Not long now until the official opening of our new shop. Experimenting with window display, light shades and stuff...it’s all fun. Heartfelt thanks go to Jackie Miller for unending support, encouragement, design skills and friendship...I am indebted to you. Also a very big thank you to Priscilla Elford
for enthusiasm, time and thought and trusting me to be her upholstery tutor. These are the sort of people everyone needs in their life, especially when setting up new! I take my hat off to you both. Let’s not forget Roughton...his photogenic qualities and smile say it all and to my Sophie Gibson for being so awesome at taking the right shot! Here’s to a successful shop opening on 1st October....I truly hope you’ll be there.

Whilst the go-slow continues, I’ve managed to finish this commission for my eclectic and zany customer. Lovely fabric for this cute French tub style chair. ‘Twas hard work, but patience paid off...the previous upholstery was quite brutal, with heavy duty staples used on very narrow frame edges...the inner arms had only a few mm’s for me to re-staple fabric...but when you know how and don’t give up, a good result! I love a bit of double piping!

Well the pandemic has changed our schedules, priorities and thoughts so I took my time with this piece and boy did it need time! Patiently matched every panel, gave it plenty of blind stitching, fixed as best I could the flaws of the front panel frame and was relentless in my pursuit of perfection....always aiming for it but realise it doesn’t actually exist.....this must be as near as damn it! Nonetheless, this is one of my best transformations of old furniture and the pics will always remind me of 2020’s difficulties. Modelli Fabrics’ Scarlatti Porridge Oats was fabulous to work with...flexible, tough and forgiving! Feeling exhausted but proud 👏 Time to pack up and start anew. 🚛 Modelli Fabrics
