South Shields Market is set for a boost, with a new operator coming on board to support and grow the Saturday market.

South Tyneside Council has appointed Local Heroes to run the weekly Saturday offer, bringing a renewed focus on quality traders, a vibrant atmosphere and an enhanced visitor experience.

The move builds on successful market models delivered elsewhere and forms part of wider plans to strengthen South Shields town centre, increase footfall and support local businesses.

Under the new arrangement, residents and visitors can expect a refreshed line-up of stalls, showcasing local producers, independent traders and a more diverse retail and food offer.

Lovely morning with mam and the girls today. Week 1 of the quilted jacket workshop, planning, prep, cutting out and bias binding techniques…lovely to see everyone’s bedspreads 😉 ready to be turned into beautiful jackets next week. ❤️

Gorgeous weekend away in the camper, stayed in Pooley Bridge, weather was sooo hot 🥵 but Mollie 🐾 enjoyed cooling off and learning to paddle board with Davy on Ullswater Lake…and of course I had to walk to Patterdale!

And another…Lesley has finished her quilted jacket (again upcycling a double bedspread!). Finished with a gorgeous orange satin bias binding, which really finishes this off 👌beautiful Lesley well done and worth the extra effort 💪

After doing the quilted jacket workshop with my Friday sewcial group, Ruth has made another 2 jackets from the same quilted bedspread! How gorgeous are these and all from 1 King Size bedspread. All using bias binding and she has even done French seams so totally reversible and added a zip to the gilet. Beautiful work Ruth ❤️👌

UPDATE: dates now confirmed. Saturday 9th & 16th June 9:30-12 (2 sessions) and Thursday 9th & 16th July 6-8:30pm. I will add those as Events later on so you have more detail, cost, venue etc.and if you wish to book be quick, I have a long waiting list! All of these will be at Tesco Xtra, Newcastle Road in the community room.

Hello 👋 it’s been a while since I posted so apologies for that. Reason being, I’ve started a new job at the Museum & Winter Gardens and I’ve had that horrid virus for nearly 3-weeks which knocked me sideways. Anyway, my voice is back and I’m planning to get the quilted jacket workshops in first as I promised those a while back!

I’m looking at 2 consecutive Saturday mornings 9:30-12, probably 6th & 13th June if the room at Tesco is available and also 2 consecutive Thursday evenings 6-8:30pm, just waiting to confirm the dates but I should know for certain on Tuesday this week.

I finished mine, bought a king size quilted throw for £20 and cut out 1 for me and 1 for mam and have a little bit spare. Much cheaper than making your own or buying pre-quilted fabric!

Here are a few pics to show you, you will also learn how to use bias binding on this workshop.
