5 interior design mistakes I see time & time again đź‘€
type put me well and truly on the spot with this interrogation… hence having to bleep out my own little slip-up 🤣

One thing I will always stand by when it comes to kitchens: spend your money where it matters!

A durable kitchen starts with a good-quality carcass and work surface. Cabinet doors can vary hugely in price depending on the finish, colour and detailing, so this can be a great place to save without compromising on the overall quality of your kitchen.

And of course, it’s YOUR home. If you love something, you absolutely don’t need an interior designer’s permission to have it.

That being said…

Please don’t buy a stainless steel sink 🤣
(Or at least get a coloured one if you’re absolutely determined.)

Do interior designers make you spend more money? Yes… and no.

This project is a great example of what working with a designer can actually get you for your budget. This was all completed through my e-design package, meaning the clients received a complete design and shopping list that they can implement at their own pace, without the cost of full-service design.

We didn't necessarily look for the cheapest option, we looked at how we could spend their budget more wisely and get much more from it.

The totals shown don't include any promotions or sale prices. Once those were taken into account, the final spend actually came in around £400–£500 less. Swipe to see where the budget started, what we changed, and just how much more we managed to include for their money 🤎

It’s all fun & games having a camera roll full of pretty interiors… until you want to show a client *that one specific thing* and have to scroll through thousands of photos to find it 🤣

**”Are you worried AI will replace interior designers?”**

It’s a question I’ve been asked a lot recently, and I’ve definitely noticed more clients bringing AI-generated inspiration to meetings.

But before AI, there was Pinterest. Before Pinterest, there were magazines. Before that, people collected fabric swatches and tore pages out of catalogues.

People have always had access to inspiration. Yet they still hire interior designers.

Why?

Because great design is about so much more than creating a pretty picture.

It’s understanding how your family lives. Planning layouts that actually work. Considering lighting, storage, building regulations, electrical plans, materials, budgets and the hundreds of tiny decisions that turn a beautiful concept into a home that functions beautifully every single day.

AI is a brilliant tool for sparking ideas, and I think it has its place. But it can’t walk through your home, understand how you use the space, notice the natural light changing throughout the day, or create that feeling you get when everything just works.

Interior design is deeply human. It’s about listening, understanding and creating spaces that feel uniquely yours.

And I don’t think technology will ever replace that human touch. 🤎

When everything starts clicking into place ✨

Almost two years ago, I took a leap and launched Chloe Johnston Interiors. Looking back, I could never have imagined how much my little business would grow.

There have been plenty of challenges, long days and moments where I’ve questioned everything. But every now and then I stop, take a breath and remind myself... I get to do this for a living.

I’m endlessly grateful to every client who has trusted me with their home. It’s such a privilege to be invited into people’s lives and help create spaces where memories will be made for years to come.

There are so many exciting projects currently in progress, and I can’t wait to share them with you over the coming months once they’re ready for their photoshoots.

I really do love this little business of mine and the joy it allows me to bring to my clients’ homes. Thank you for being here and supporting the journey 🤎

A little update on availability... we’ve had quite a few exciting enquiries for larger projects recently.
Depending on how many of these move forward, I may be closing my books until next year. I’ll keep you updated once the diary is mapped out, but if you’ve been thinking about working together, I’d recommend getting in touch sooner rather than later 🫶🏼

And that's a hat-trick! 🏆🏆🏆

I honestly can't believe I'm writing this... this is the third award Chloe Johnston Interiors has received in the past two months! 🥹

I actually received this email last month but had to keep it under wraps until the end of June. Then, in true small business owner fashion, work got so busy that I completely forgot to share the news!

I'm so incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported my business, recommended me, or trusted me with their home. Every project means the world to me, and to receive recognition like this without ever applying for these awards feels incredibly special.

Things are getting busier (and bigger!) here at Chloe Johnston Interiors, and I genuinely can't wait to see what the rest of the year has in store. We've got an exciting rebrand on the horizon, some wonderful new projects about to begin, and lots more to share with you very soon.

Depending on a couple of exciting enquiries currently in the pipeline, I may have to close my books until October, so if you've been thinking about transforming your home, I'd love to hear from you sooner rather than later.

Here's to creating more beautiful homes together 🤎✨

My inner child is crying at this transformation 🥹🤍

A little before & after of the sweetest girls’ bed nook I had the pleasure of designing.

The brief was to create a space that could grow with them over the years, so every decision was made with longevity in mind. We wanted it to feel playful and magical now, while still being easy to update as they grow.

These beautiful lightsandlamps.com wall lights were the perfect choice, and one of my favourite details is that the shades can be replaced or reupholstered in the future for an instant refresh.

The gorgeous Scion fabric was transformed into a bespoke headboard, adding personality and colour, while the oak cubby shelves with hidden charging points and integrated LED lighting create the cosiest little reading nook.

The best feedback? Mum texted me to say she was too excited to go to sleep and didn’t want to leave the room the next morning 🤣🤎

There are still a few finishing touches before the full reveal, but seeing both mum and daughter so happy on reveal day reminded me exactly why I love what I do. ✨

What’s the best part about my job?

Seeing my clients’ reactions when they see the design for the first time 🥹🤎

I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t nerve-racking. After spending weeks (sometimes months!) developing a design, there’s always that little moment of anticipation before the reveal.

That’s exactly why we spend so much time at the beginning of a project exploring concepts, inspiration and mood boards. It’s not just about choosing beautiful furniture or paint colours—it’s about making sure the final design captures the feeling you want your home to have.

When a client says they couldn’t have imagined it that way, it’s the best!

Those moments make every late night and every design decision completely worth it. ✨

Some little snippets from recent projects that are almost ready for their photoshoots ✨

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt as a designer, it’s that the perfect piece is almost always worth waiting for. Delays on furniture can make my job feel impossible at times, but rushing and settling for second best is rarely the answer.

The final layers are what bring a space to life, and seeing everything come together makes the wait worthwhile 🤎

If you’re thinking about transforming your home, my DMs are always open for a chat, or you can head to my website to find out more about how I can help.
