At Not On The High Street Small Business Awards earlier this month I was nominated for the Innovation Award. I did the usual thing most small biz owners do and instantly went into “I have no idea why” “I haven’t reinvented the wheel” and all the usual self deprecating things we do. As I sat and listened to Sara Davies MBE talk about Brown Betty Blue and why I was nominated I felt a sense of pride. NOTHS provides a trend guide that has been a useful guide for me. One part I have always loved and felt inspired by is the colour trends they show. Colour is such an integral part of my business. It’s why I started making children’s items. When I had my first daughter 15 years ago I just felt so uninspired by the baby pink options out there. All I wanted was a bright colourful nursery. So instead of buying nursery items I made them!
Today this is still at the core of what I make. I am inspired by colour and I have always felt a little sad when children grow out of rainbow skirts and enter teenage years of black or grey tracksuits.
So whilst they are young I say throw colour everywhere! On the walls, on their bed and on their clothes! And don’t be afraid of clashing patterns!! Put the stripes with the spots or the leopard print with the check I say!!
