Hello there, we’re Darklight Design - independent lighting designers with our own shiny, online designer lighting store. We sell the latest contemporary indoor and outdoor lighting for your home, garden or business, and you can even buy architectural lighting from us. We also provide a full lighting design consultancy package, ranging from one room to a whole property development. If there is a void in your life that only a kick-ass floor lamp can fill, our online designer lighting store is waiting for you. We supply contemporary indoor and outdoor lighting collections from Europe’s most covetable design houses, as well as some lesser known gems that we find on our travels. On top of all that, we’re also a specialist independent lighting design consultancy. Based in Berkshire, we work with architects, interior designers and home owners on projects throughout the UK and Europe. It's LED Light Day, a day that celebrates the evolution of the light bulb 💡

LEDs are a modern lighting technology that's far more efficient than old-fashioned bulbs. When traditional bulbs were phased out, three energy-saving options stepped in to replace them: halogen, CFL and LED. Only one came out on top. Let's shine a light on why…

Why use LEDs?

🔋Energy-efficient – they use up to 90% less wattage than traditional incandescent bulbs.
🌿Eco-friendly – safe to use and dispose of; they don’t contain toxic materials (incandescent and CFL contain lead and mercury), and their heat sinks remove any heat they produce.
⌛Longer-lasting – up to 50,000 hours compared with c2,000 for incandescent, c4,000 for halogen and c20,000 for CFL.
💡Cheaper – to run than their alternatives because they use less energy and need replacing less often. They’re also much less expensive to buy than they used to be.
🔅Attractive – new dim-to-warm LEDs behave more like halogen and traditional bulbs as they fade to an ambient glow.

1. Zone off outdoor lighting areas⛔
Start by visualising how you'll use your outdoor living area. Perhaps you want to create an outdoor dining area that can be enjoyed during darker evenings, or you want to highlight key greenery and shrubs, or architectural home features.

2. Create a consistent 'feel' with your outdoor lighting✨
Most clients prefer a warm glow in their garden and avoid the cooler white lights. To achieve this intimate vibe, choose warm white LEDs with a low colour temperature, around 2700K.

3. Plan the best way to install exterior lighting⚙
Director and lighting designer Chris says, "In order for your longed-for lighting scheme to last, I always recommend wiring external systems in 24V and mounting drivers in IP-rated, above-ground weatherproof boxes.”
