So today marks the start of the last ever week of the shop. I honestly thought I would be here until I retired many years hence but it's never going to happen now. Don't forget, we have 25% off yarns, needles etc and loose leaf patterns are just £1.00 each! Plenty of Tinsel yarn and Christmas books as well. Never too early for a crafter!!

Well I have to say that today has been disappointing. My January used to be so much busier than ‘no customers in today’ Sure it’s been a gloomy day but there’s always a warm welcome here and I try to help any way I can. We’ll see how it goes 🥰

We will be closed from Thursday 23rd December to Tuesday 4th January 2022. This may change if there's another lockdown.....

I would like to point out that the restrictions that came in today DO NOT include the closure of any shops. We are still open 10.00am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday with ample free parking and a warm welcome 😁 Have you enough yarn to see you through the festivities?!?! Need a craft related gift? Well I have to say I tried. July was simply awful with less than £1000 in trade from around 35 unique customers. There hasn’t been a customer in on the last three Saturdays along with four other non-days. Quite a few were less than £10 for the day. I cannot keep going like this and may have to consider closing altogether. I’ve done my best and can do no more to try to save it. If folk won’t come out, the shops won’t last and I’m sure I’m not alone in this. It’s so very very sad 😢

In the interests of research & development (lol) I took it upon myself to try out the Scheepjes Whirls :) Made from a blend of 60% cotton and 40% acrylic, this yarn is soft, has a fabulous drape and is lovely to work with. There is 1000m to each whirl which made this blanket 26" square (67cms). The doll is 21" long with a 16" chest so represents a new born easily. Gorgeous yarn and now a firm favourite! Priced at £21.99 each, these yarns would make a beautiful 'new baby' gift :)

Well, I believe the future of the shop is secured.... up to £45.80 for the WEEK. Two days of no customers at all and a couple with maybe one or two customers. Only Laura came to Knit & Natter. Never going to last like this, worst trading ever since we supposedly 're-opened' on April 12th. It's not all the heat either, haven't seen a good days trade since way before that. Ho hum.

So, 19th July is D-Day!!!! I'm so hoping this will give confidence to those who are unsure about going out. This is a crucial time for the shop as the lack of trade in recent months has lead to the shop almost being closed for good. Hopefully things will pick up and we can start running classes etc in earnest :) A customer recently commented that it 'would be good to get the gang back together' and she's not wrong!! Happier days ahead :) :)

Who's going to be my customer today??!?!? Seriously though, your yarn shops are failing, everywhere. I had a visit from one of the yarn reps the other day who tells a very sad and sorry tale of the lack of trade countrywide. I have the chance to move into better premises here at the farm that would make an enormous difference, starting with disabled access, a workshop room and a lot more space. I cannot do this if I'm only getting one or two customers a day. The shop is NOT in lockdown, the country is NOT in lockdown and you CAN go shopping safely enough, especially in our region. I am certainly not alone in this, other local craft shops will report the same thing. At this rate, by the time customers decide it's ok to come out, there'll be nowhere left for you to go. Please, let's try to get back to some sort of normality and save our shops! Thank you all :) :) :)
