Our homes are changing.

We're moving away from spaces that simply look beautiful and towards spaces that feel calmer, warmer and more restorative.

Natural materials, softer palettes, layered lighting and comfortable furnishings all play a role, but perhaps the biggest shift is how we view our homes.

Not just as places to live, but places that help us slow down, reconnect and recharge.
That's why we design for living.

A really interesting insight from the latest B&Q How We Live Report.

Homes are no longer just about aesthetics - people are craving spaces that support wellbeing, comfort and calm in everyday life.

It’s a shift we’re seeing more and more within interior design and renovation projects.

Not every client needs full end-to-end interior design support. Sometimes, what they need most is clarity at the very beginning, help bringing an idea out of their mind and into something they can actually see, believe in and start building towards.

Those first visuals are often the most challenging part of the journey, but equally the most exciting. From little acorns, big trees grow.

There’s something incredibly special about watching a business owner, developer, or homeowner, someone who has poured their heart and passion into an idea finally see its potential brought to life.

I’m incredibly grateful for these kind words following this visualisation project with Cotswold Country Retreats - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61576746127470.

Helping turn ideas into something tangible before the first brick is laid is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do, and I’m so excited to see this venture continue to grow.

Many of us use our bathrooms simply to get ready for the day… rushing in, rushing out, rarely stopping to truly enjoy the space.

Recently, we worked with a client who told us they had stopped taking time for themselves, always choosing a quick shower over a long bath. Life had become busy, routines had taken over, and this once personal space had become purely functional.
Following the renovation, everything changed.

Soft lighting. Candles. Natural textures. Everyday luxuries. Plush towels. A calmer, more considered environment.

What was once just another room became a place to pause, reset, and find a little calm amid the pace of everyday life.

At Ex-pressions, we believe our homes should support our wellbeing and often, the spaces we overlook can have the biggest impact.

We walked through a home recently with a client who knows a move might be on the horizon. Life had been busy. There were things they'd always meant to do, but never quite got around to.

Moving room to room, the conversation wasn't about big renovations or big budgets.
It was simply: what's actually worth doing now?

Touch-ups to paintwork. Tidying tired woodwork. Swapping out a few dated details - door handles, light switches, the small things you stop seeing but visitors notice immediately.

Better light in darker corners. A lamp and a large mirror in the hallway can do more than most people expect. A few quiet tweaks in the bathroom.

No big renovation needed, just thoughtful changes that make a home feel more cared for now… and could quietly support its value when the time comes.

Preparing for the future doesn't always mean doing more. Sometimes it just means knowing where to focus.

Did you know?

Up to 1 in 20 people can't visualise a space in their mind at all, and even those who can, experience it very differently.

So when you're asked to "imagine how it will look," it isn't always that simple.
Which is why we believe design should never be left open to interpretation.
Through considered visualisation and detailed 3D imagery, we bring a space into focus, allowing you to truly understand how it will look, feel, and live before anything is built.

This bar began as a vision. Watch to see how closely it became reality.

It's not just about the house…

Home renovation can be disruptive. Routines change, spaces shift, and for pets, their environment is everything - so we take just as much care to make sure the four-legged members of the family feel safe and considered along the way.

Whether that's being mindful of open doors, introducing ourselves slowly, or simply taking a moment to earn their trust; when we step into your home, we're thinking about the whole family.

We're lucky to work with some wonderful people… and some equally wonderful animals.

With special thanks to Daisy & Poppy, Peanut & Pickle, Bonny & Daisy and Dumbo for being such wonderful host.

A beautiful home isn't always enough.

I was reading recently about how some of the world's most valuable homes are being designed - by people who can have anything.
What stood out wasn't the scale or the finishes… but the shift in focus.
Homes designed to support real life. To move effortlessly between work, family and entertaining. To feel calm, considered and easy to live in.

It's a conversation we have with every client.
Not just how do you want it to look? but how do you actually live?
Where do you land when you walk through the door? Where do you naturally gather at the end of the day? What does a slow Sunday morning look like?

Because a home can be beautiful… but if it doesn't work for you, it never quite feels right.

There's a real shift happening. Away from statement… towards homes that genuinely support everyday living.

What's one thing in your home that looks great, but doesn't quite work?

Is wall panelling starting to date… or are we just using it differently?

With it being the school holidays, we've been giving our teenage daughter's bedroom a little refresh. The panelling was already there, and she was very clear it was staying.
It did get me thinking though… panelling is still hugely popular, but has it peaked?

Over the past couple of years, we've used panelling in all kinds of spaces, different styles, proportions and settings, from traditional homes to more contemporary. And when it's done well, it always brings that extra layer of detail to a room.

And that's really the point.
It's not panelling that dates a home… it's how it's used.

When the same style is repeated again and again, it can start to feel predictable. But when it's considered, varied in scale, used with restraint, and designed for the space, it becomes something far more enduring.

More architectural. More personal.

That's always been our approach. Not following a formula but treating each space individually.

So, if you love it, keep it. Just evolve how it's used around you.
