Seems too early for Christmas but i’ve been working on some Christmas cards to sell at my next market on 10th October. Here’s a sneak preview of afew of them. What do you think?

Thought i’d work on a willow tit as part of the collection. It is often confused with a marsh tit. The only real way to be certain is listening to their call as the differences are very subtle and not reliable. I enjoyed doing this. It is coloured pencil drawing on watercolour paper.

I’ve been working on a retirement gift for a colleague. I’d asked what his favourite animal was and he said a lion as it represented Jesus. So i did some googling and found that the lion and lamb had important symbolisation in christian faith. So i had a think, found some free reference photos and created my own artwork for him. I hope he likes it.

We have been visited by a small flock of young starlings over the last few weeks. They are very efficient at emptying the bird feeders and I love the social chat they make. I think the ground is so hard, because of drought conditions, the feeders have been really important. The parent birds are so beautiful and colourful. I hadn’t really appreciated how exotic looking they are until i started drawing one🎨. It has been really challenging to mimic the pearlescent shine on their feathers.

Starlings have declined in recent decades and are now listed as a red listed species of conservation concern. I’m happy to help them out during this difficult summer. I hope they stay and put on a mini murmuration for us. ☺️🐦‍⬛🪺

Starting to prep for autumn markets and christmas cards in the middle of summer. ☺️Robins are good place to start. This is my first one which is colour pencil on duralar film paper. Think I might do four and offer them as a set? What do you think? Or would a variety of christmas wildlife cards be better?

Well what a day that was. Lots of firsts for me:-

1st market attended
1st time using a gazebo
1st stall set up
1st time holding a stall down in incredible gusts of wind
1st card payment taken using my phone
1st gift tag sale
1st kingfisher and bee mounted sales
1st pack away
1st small profit above the site fee

Lots of lovely complements from very kind customers about the artwork which was encouraging.

What a lovely trader community!

Bring on the next one. Nothing in the diary yet so need to get looking 😃
