WAVE CURTAINS

These 3.5 width wave curtains in 'Inisfree' by look truly stunning in my lovely friend's newly decorated sitting room. We bought the fabric for a snip of the price at the fabulous in Kingsbridge and are all really happy with the finished results.

ROMAN BLIND WITH ONION FRINGE

Some jobs are just special. My client saw a photo of one of my blinds in a promo (pinned on my grid) and liked it so much that she called them to ask for the name of the maker...what were the chances of us both living in the same small town on Dartmoor?!
This blind showcases a Suzie Watson fabric in sage and neutral, and the iconic onion fringe in linen; it frames the view beautifully. As always, it's mounted on an track, with antique brass bead chain.

Let's talk about LAYERING...

We all know about layering our clothes but have you ever thought about layering your window treatments? People often ask me if they should choose curtains or blinds; whether they should opt for heavy interlined curtains as opposed to lighterweight ones; should they go patterned or plain. Really, sometimes the answer is to have both.

The first picture shows some heavy interlined roman blinds layered over sheer motorised rollers for privacy from the road, a job I completed 18 months ago.

The next two pictures show the curtains I installed today, layered over some patterned blinds the owners inherited with their house. They had been feeling the drafts from the large windows, so these interlined curtains will help keep them cosy in the evening. The curtains can also be drawn on hot summer days to keep the house cool.

As well as curtains over blinds, another great look is for heavy curtains over sheers; there are some great double poles around specifically for this purpose.

MAXIMALIST CURTAINS

Yesterday, I popped back to see and photograph these beautiful velvet curtains (and cushions), which I made and installed a couple of weeks ago. The fabric is a beautiful scandi-inspired cotton velvet by ; interlined and lined for that extra-heavy, snug feeling, and teemed with a burnt orange velvet (alvar by ) for the cushions. The curtains are hanging on a minimalist oak curtain pole by .

SUSTAINABLE CURTAIN POLES

I'm a big fan of these elegant and minimalist curtain poles, and love to use them with my handmade curtains. The poles are made locally to me, by Hywel , using trees which have been felled due to Ash die back disease...instead of going to waste they are turned into something truly beautiful.

HANDMADE TIEBACKS

Last week I added 3 hand tailored tiebacks to these curtains which I made earlier in the year, for my lovely yoga teacher Ale@yoga_squirrel. Ale had found the cutest hummingbird tieback hooks from .

The piping is in a beautiful soft olive velvet (a remnant) which matches the pom pom fringe of the curtains perfectly.

This week I'm working on a gift... a trio of blinds for my daughter's new home (wasn't expecting a bay window when I suggested the idea of a blind 😅🙃😉). She chose this really pretty and well-priced art deco print in a soft olive green, which is a very calming colour for a bedroom.

2 down, 1 to go and all I need now is to work out how to get them safely to Newcastle 🤔
