Bee aware 🐝🐝🐝
Healthy bees are important to us all. They do a marvellous job of pollination of so much we eat and grow such as flowers, hence my interest.
Today I attended an Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) National Bee Unit Healthy Bee Husbandry Day organised by Shropshire Beekeepers Association. We partook in a carousel of workshops on good bee husbandry and about pests and diseases. Some of which have to be notified to the APHA. The workshops were a mixture of information, and included a bio-hazard room of critters that affect bee hives, both to cause direct damage to a grown bee or its larvae. The diseases are destructive to Apis Melliferra (UK honey bees) and saw first hand what they look like and how they smell - Phew!
As I want to keep bees it’s important I know what to do and the back up is phenomenal. Some notifiable pests and diseases if found can result in bee hives being burnt in a dug pit or taken way under controlled conditions especially in heatwave conditions.

One thing you can do is download the Asian Hornet Watch app. We don’t want them in our county! You don’t need bees to do this and be vigilant.
