MEET THE MAKERS
Say hello to Simon and Emma from Tuckley's Terrariums - a pair of delightful regular faces who bring along some very interesting displays of some VERY UNIQUE items and "things" which may shock you as it's not something you'd expect to see at a Market - Find out more below
Simon (The Steve Irwin of the invertebrates) at The Craft and Makers Market and Emma (The Clay Queen) have been familiar faces with us in most of our locations and a huge hit with visitors and stall holders..
*What do you do and who are you?
We are Husband and wife team Simon and Emma Tuckley of Pottery & Botany which consists of Tuckley’s Terrariums (Simon)and Emma Tong Ceramics (Emma) Simon creates Terrariums, other botanical art and insect enclosures.
Emma works with clay creating wildlife sculptures and other items. We also sell and educate on invertebrates! Praying mantises, jumping spiders, isopods and beetles.
*How did you start your journey?
We started Pottery & Botany due to ill health and losing our jobs. We started markets around a year ago, a few months later opened a shop and the rest is history.
*What do you enjoy most about attending markets?
We absolutely relish meeting people and the conversations we have Everyone brightens our day.
*What inspires you with your offerings?
Simon has always created animal enclosures and aquariums. Emma fell in love with ceramics at the age of 15 (not counting the obligatory ash tray made in primary school)
*Give us an idea of a typical day in the life of you when you’re prepping for a market.
We have got our prep down to a fine art. But we start the day working in our shop as usual. When we close everything gets loaded into crates. Double checking everything, charging battery packs, feeding all the insects and setting an early alarm!
*Where can people see, buy, or support your work and markets you are attending soon?
People can find us at some of the Craft & Makers Markets
The rest of the time you can find us at our shop at the Maws craft centre near Ironbridge.
