Muddy, yes, but always a place for some pattern and patina! Sister Parish Design and Lorfords Antiques join forces once again, celebrating craftsmanship, character and the art of a well-considered space. Our country house mud room is anchored by โBreakfast in Bedโ, Sister Parishโs covetable floral wall covering, providing the perfect foil for an early 19th Century Alsatian armoire in painted pine, bow-fronted with a nod to C.S. Lewis in its proportions. A shaped bonnet top crowns a pair of gently bow fronted panelled doors, the facade further embellished with carved mouldings and a central guilloche-style pilaster. Suspended above, an elgant late 19th Century octagonal bronze lantern, its multi-faceted glass rendered in a soft verdigris patina.
To one side, one of a pair of 18th Century Italian Rococo painted consoles,retaining its original polychrome and parcel gilt decoration. The serpentine top, rendered in dark slate tones, is centred by a foliate cartouche and raised on refined cabriole legs. Above, a vibrant, oversized Provenรงal green-glazed terracotta planter and a gilt-framed portrait mirror, handsomely foxed with age.
Overflowing with plentiful scarlet geraniums, is a 20th Century French wrought iron plant or floristโs stand, multi-tiered, with its graduated circular tiers and ring holders still bearing traces of an early pale blue paint. A late 19th Century hand-carved Swedish โkubbโ stool, retaining its original paintwork, keeps company with an early 19th Century Portuguese Rococo walnut side chair, its shaped back centred by a finely pierced and carved splat, the crest rising into scrolling foliate flourishes, upholstered in a rich chocolate silk-linen.
