Just in: a George II Irish giltwood pier mirror.

Ireland, circa 1740s.

Original gilding, original foxed bevelled plate. Some loss to the gilding revealing the bole underneath but like with people, signs of age are signs of character.

We are proud to announce the launch of The Turner’s Stop: a doorstop that has been meticulously lathe-turned by hand and celebrates the skill of the turner.

Captured beautifully by here is the incredibly satisfying process from start to finish. From a raw blank to completed Turner’s Stop.

Following the launch of our OX9 chair in 2024, The Turner’s Stop is the second object to be added to our collection of Oxfordshire-made pieces for the home, dreamt up in-house and designed to honour and preserve a specialist, local craft.

The Turner’s Stop is a celebration of natural materials and time-honoured skills of the past. Turning on a lathe requires exceptional expertise - fraught with danger, it’s a skill that cabinetmakers have outsourced to professional turners for centuries.

Hand-lathed in laminated tulipwood, weighted with steel and mounted on a cork base, The Turner’s Stop has a domed, reeded body and a characteristic flared disc top.

Finished in beeswax as standard, bespoke finishes are available on request. Just get in touch with your ideas!
