There’s something rather lovely about natural dyeing at this time of year 🌿☀️

With the sunshine finally making an appearance, now feels like the perfect time to get the dye pots and pans out, gather some fibre, and have a go at this ancient craft for yourself.

We stock a wonderful range of natural dyes and mordants — perfect for experimenting with soft botanical shades, rich earthy tones, and all the beautifully unpredictable colours that natural dyeing brings. Whether you’re completely new to it or already happily hooked, there’s something so satisfying about watching colour slowly develop on wool in the summer sun.

Natural dyeing has been part of textile traditions for centuries, and there’s a real joy in slowing down and working with natural materials in such a hands-on way.

And if you’re new to natural dyeing, don’t worry — full guidance for using our dyes and mordants can be found on our website to help you get started 🌼🧶🐑

25-26 April 2026
Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells
Saturday 10am - 5:30pm, Sunday 10am - 4:30pm
Hall 2, Stand Q2

We’re delighted to be heading back to Wonderwool Wales once again – it’s a highlight of our year and a show we’ve been attending for many years. If you’ve visited us before, you’ll know exactly where to find us, as we’ll be in our usual spot. 🐑

As always we’ll be bringing a wide selection of our fibres pre-hanked so you can fully appreciate the beautiful range of colours and textures on offer. It’s a great opportunity to see (and feel!) the differences between fibres and blends in person.

Alongside our fibres, we’ll have lots of Ashford equipment available to purchase at the show, as well as our own Wingham range of traditional combs and drum carders, all built with the same care and quality you expect from us.

Please note we're not able to take pre-orders for collection at the event. While we know this can be convenient, it limits the amount and variety of stock we’re able to bring along for everyone to browse. By focusing on display stock, we can make sure there’s plenty to see and choose from on the day.

We’re really looking forward to another fantastic show and hope to see you there!🐑🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

It’s starting to feel like summer is just around the corner…🌞

Longer days, a little more sunshine, and that familiar urge to start something new 🧶
To celebrate the shift in seasons, we’ve put together a couple of small offers for the weekend.

Our Wingham Express Boxes are a lovely way to explore new colours, blends, and fibres — perfect for a bit of fresh inspiration at this time of year.
This weekend, they’re all 5% off… and if you choose any four, the cheapest one is still on us.
We’ve also taken 5% off our Wingham Mini Carders — ideal if you fancy blending your own summer shades.

Each pair comes with a free 50g bundle of our 21 micron dyed merino, along with free UK shipping.
They’re perfect for small projects, sampling ideas, or simply slowing down with something hands-on.

Offers run until midnight on Sunday 12th April.🐑

A little Easter update from the mill 🐣🌿

From 2nd – 13th April, the mill will be closed and order dispatch paused while our team takes a well-earned break. It also gives us a chance to carry out some essential maintenance and make a few quiet improvements behind the scenes before we head into the Spring & Summer season.

If you’re planning your next projects, this weekend is a lovely time to get stocked up on fibres to keep you going while we’re away 🧶

We’ll still be here online, and we may even have a few little offers popping up along the way…
Thank you, as always, for your support — it really does mean the world to our team 🐑

Imagine this… you and your fibre group, surrounded by rows and rows of fibre… 🐑

After many kind requests (and a few lovely test runs behind the scenes), we’re so pleased to say that we’ll be opening our doors for group visits here at the mill from May onwards.

It’s not anything formal — just a chance to step inside our working space, hear a little of our story, and spend some time surrounded by our wool in all its forms.

We’ll start with a short introduction, then leave plenty of time to wander, ask questions, and have a proper squish of the fibre.

Most visits naturally centre around the fibre (it’s hard not to!), though we’ll be on hand to chat about tools, equipment and dyes too.
If you’re part of a guild or fibre group and this sounds like your kind of morning or afternoon, we’d love to hear from you.

To arrange a visit or find out more, please contact Ellie on [email protected] or 03300 436650 🧶

Bluebells, soft beech wood greens and the quiet arrival of spring 🌿💜
Bluebell Wood moving through the blending line today, perfectly timed with the spring equinox — that gentle shift into longer days and lighter evenings.
This Dyed Merino blend brings together fresh greens and soft blue-violet tones, echoing woodland floors just beginning to come to life. As the fibres pass through the mill, the colours gradually merge into a balanced blend while still keeping that lovely natural variation that makes spinning so interesting.
There’s something special about working with these seasonal palettes — a sense of the landscape finding its way into the fibre.
Blended here in the mill and ready to head off to spinners, felters and fibre artists.

Soft pastels and a hint of spring 🌸🧶
Elsecar moving through the blending line today, bringing together fresh greens, soft pinks, lilacs and gentle blues in a palette that feels like spring.

This dyed Merino & silk blend combines beautifully soft fibre with a subtle sheen from the silk, catching the light and adding depth to your finished project. As the colours pass through the mill, they gradually merge into a balanced blend while still keeping that lovely definition that makes spinning so interesting.

Always a pleasure watching shades like these come together — light, bright and full of energy after the darker tones of winter.

Watery blues, reed greens and flashes of riverbank yellow 🌿🧶

Pudsey moving through the blending line today.
This Dyed Merino & silk blend is full of riparian colours — shades that feel right at home along a riverbank where light catches the water and reeds shift in the breeze.

Watching colours come together like this never gets old. What begins as separate shades gradually merges as the fibres pass through the mill, creating a balanced blend while still keeping that gentle variation that makes blended tops so interesting to spin. The Merino brings softness and easy spinning, while the silk adds a subtle sheen that catches the light beautifully in the finished yarn.

Blended here in the mill and ready to head off to spinners, felters and fibre artists for their next projects. 🐑

Back on the blending line today with one of our favourite British fibres — Bluefaced Leicester Humbug 🐑🧶

Bluefaced Leicester is widely considered the softest of the British wool breeds, making it a wonderful choice for spinning projects where you want softness while still keeping the character and strength that British wool is known for.

The natural Humbug blend of light and dark fibres also creates something really special when dyed, giving colours a real richness and depth, with beautiful variation and subtle tonal shifts in the finished fibre and spun yarn.

A classic British wool, blended here in the mill and ready for its next creative adventure — and one that happens to be one of Ellie’s personal favourites too.💚
