Community Challenge to Support the Homeless in Scarborough

Threads and Tales invited knitters to take part in a free challenge to knit 100 hats for those in need at The Rainbow Centre in Scarborough. Sponsored by King Cole, Threads & Tales Thornton Le Dale & HPE Print Pickering. The projects goal was to provide warm winter hats ahead of the colder months.

Getting involved was simple. Participants could visit Threads & Tales in Thorton Le Dale to collect a free ball of wool and a free knitting pattern.

Completed hats were then returned to a collection point in the shop.

The completed hats were delivered to The Rainbow Centre, ensuring they are distributed before the onset of winter.

Both experienced and beginner knitters embraced the challenge and we are pleased to announce that 139 hats were handed over yesterday by Denise and Roger.

The Rainbow Centre would like to thank all the participants both local and visitors to the shop for the time spent helping to make a difference to us here at The Rainbow. Big thank you to Denise too for organising.

Well, just don't know where to start! When I first had the idea of challenging our lovely village community of Thornton le Dale to knit 100 hats for the homeless in Scarborough, I really thought it may be a little to much to ask. Threads & Tales TLD along with King Cole Yarn & Pattern Supplier and HPE Print Pickering, sponsored the challenge to pick up a free pattern and a free ball of wool to knit a hat. Once finished, the hats would be dropped off at Threads and Tales. Not only did the residents in the village rise to the challenge, but also so many visitors who posted their knitted hats back to us.

Today I visited The Rainbow Centre, Scarborough and delivered a grand total of 139 hats, along with 10 scarfs and 8 knitted cardigans! Roger and I would like to thank everyone so so much. I am shocked at the kindness that so many of you have shown. It's amazing!

Well, The Scarecrows are all arriving in the village this evening for the Bank Holiday Weekend .
As well as the Threads & Tales TLD bunch we also have the pleasure of having the Scarecrows from the 1st Thornton le Dale Brownies and Rainbows for company.
I hope they are not a rowdy bunch .....
