If I had a Ā£1 for every time someone asked if they could buy one of the decorations in the shop (furniture and fixings included!), I’d probably be typing this from a sun lounger on a beach somewhere hot by now…

But instead, I’m typing this from my shop in Towcester, with some exciting news!

So many of you have asked if you can buy the little potted ivy plants I use to style the shelves around the shop, so I’ve finally listened!

We have a small selection of potted ivy heading into the shop this week, and YES… they’re actually for sale!

Perfect for adding a little touch of greenery to your shelves, sideboards or anywhere at home that needs a little something extra.

Thank you for always loving the little details around the shop (and for keeping me on my toes with your requests! šŸ˜‰).

Pop in and grab one while they last!

Six years. Six Autumn Winter Collections. And somehow I feel like I’m just getting started.

There’s so much that goes into launching a new collection, but every time I do, I know I’m getting closer to what I want Miller & Chalk to become.

This time I changed things slightly, I introduced a new colour. Sounds silly right? But when I first start M&C I wanted it to be completely neutral. Now, six years later, I want each product to feel homely, quintessentially English and something you’d have in your home for many years to come.

Now let’s get planning for Spring Summer 27!

They’re back! 🪓

Our terracotta pots have finally been restocked in the shop and we’ve got a lovely selection of colours and sizes to choose from.

Starting from just Ā£5.99, they’re perfect for herbs, houseplants or simply adding a little bit of rustic texture to a shelf or windowsill. I love grouping a few different sizes together too.

Available now in store!

Our Autumn Winter Collection has officially launched in store!

I’ve been working towards this collection for a long time. I went over and over the fabrics for months, why? Because (I know this sounds silly) but this is a new colour for me. I’m used to playing it safe and going for the neutral palette. But as Miller & Chalk evolves, I want to design and create items that would sit in a beautiful country home, whether it’s neutral or whether it’s slightly more lived in (yes, this colour originally felt daring for me!).

So, I’ve introduced three new tones; chocolate, chestnut and toffee.

Simply adding these shades to the shop has made it feel so autumnal and cosy. That’s the good thing about cushions, you can change them depending on the season without having to redecorate your whole home.

Anyway, keep your eyes peeled as this collection will be launching online this week!

Well… this was a slightly surreal thing to stumble across this morning šŸ˜‚ I had absolutely no idea this video had been made until it appeared while I was scrolling!

So let’s talk about this…

Running a small independent business on the high street certainly isn't easy. There are rising costs, VAT, rent, wages and a very long list of things behind the scenes that customers understandably never see. It’s really important that conversations like this are happening. We should absolutely be talking about this because something needs to change.

But I also don't want the conversation around independent shops to always be one of doom and gloom.

Miller & Chalk started in my parents' spare room, grew online, moved into a little barn, popped up on the high street and eventually got its own front door in Towcester. Reaching the VAT threshold might bring a new set of challenges, but it's also a sign that the business has grown.

And despite everything you hear about the British high street, I still believe there is a place for brilliant independent shops and for town centres that people actually want to spend time in.

So no, we're not going anywhere. In fact, I feel like we're only just getting started. šŸ¤Ž

Thank you, as always, to every person who walks through our door, places an order online, tells a friend about us or simply follows along. Every single one of those things keeps a small business moving forward!

It’s officially back…The Outlet is here!

You may remember when I did my first pop-up a year ago (it’s been a year…I know it’s crazy!) I had a whole room filled with outlet cushions and you all loved it! That room eventually became our lovely pop-up room for other small businesses and the outlet got left behind.

So I’ve been working away making lots of cushions to bring the outer section back. It doesn’t have its own room but instead it’s right at the front of the shop so you can easily find it.

I will say, there are some good ones in this drop! From Harris Tweed to ticking stripes to linen. So, if you have no plans this weekend, pop by and take a look at our new cushions (in-store only).

A little update from what’s been going on this week as I’ve been terrible at sharing!

1. The Barn has had a little change around.
2. Something new and exciting is coming to the shop…
3. We launched our new cushions which you have all been loving!
4. Kathy created a lovely window display which makes the shop feel so cosy. I’m so ready for Autumn!
5. I actually remembered to take a picture of a Harris Tweed roman blind which I delivered to the most picturesque village.
6. This week was a marathon of sewing but I got there!
7. We launched a brand new workshop with a local ceramicist. We’re also planning something very exciting behind the scenes!
8. Running a business can be very stressful at times so I made my desk feel extra cosy and special.
9. We had a change around in the shop, my new favourite thing to do. I never want customers to think it’s always the same items when they come in so I try and change it on a regular basis.
10. Still can’t believe I get to call this my job. How have I got here?!
11. A treat for Kathy and I, freshly baked scones from Philippa’s

Towcester, our workshops are back! šŸ™Œ

And we’re easing ourselves back in with two of my favourite things: terracotta and frills!

On Saturday 26th September, the lovely Charmaine from Towcester-based My Clay Therapy is joining us at Miller & Chalk for a morning of creativity….and of course, cake!

You’ll spend the morning making your very own terracotta frilly plant pot, with Charmaine showing you exactly what to do. There’s absolutely no pottery experience (or hidden artistic talent) required!

It’ll be relaxed, informal and hopefully a lovely excuse to switch off for a couple of hours. And naturally, there’ll be cake and drinks while we make.

šŸ“ Miller & Chalk, 213 Watling Street, NN12 6BX
Saturday 26th September
10am–12pm
Just 12 spaces available

Come on your own, bring your mum, persuade a friend… we’ll provide the clay and cake.
