Following the ground floor transformation, we’re now turning our attention to the bathrooms and dressing room within this beautiful 16th-century farmhouse.

The brief has been to create spaces that feel rooted in the heritage of the house, layered with a little luxury, comfort and understated cool.

Here’s a first look at the schemes and renders before work begins on site.

MAY MADNESS!
May honestly feels like it’s been the busiest and hottest month on record.

There’s been so much going on at Barkerdesign HQ lately, from events and features through to exciting new projects and consultancy work with some lovely clients.
Throw half term into the mix and I genuinely haven’t had a second to post any updates!

So I’m really pleased to finally share our feature in the new ‘Edit’ supplement by , which also features my talented friend on the front cover amongst many other brilliant local businesses.

Alongside new consultancy projects, other homes we’re managing from concept through to completion are all moving through different stages of detailed design and implementation. It’s always rewarding seeing those schemes gradually come to life whilst navigating the inevitable quirks and surprises these old buildings tend to throw up along the way.

We also squeezed in another photoshoot this month, so lots of new work to share very soon.

Have a lovely sunny weekend everyone!

OLD BONES - YOUNG HEARTS

From Decimus Burton villas to 15th-century farmhouses, Arts and Crafts homes, 16th-century manor houses and Georgian properties, each project is shaped by the client’s story while respecting the heritage of the building.

Many of my clients relocate from London, finding their long-term family home and wanting to make it their own. They come with ideas, instinct and a clear sense of how they want to live.

My role is to bring clarity. To refine those ideas, balance them against the architecture and create something that feels as though it’s always been there, while managing the process from start to finish.

Got a project you’d like to discuss? Final two places for 2026 now available.

ARCHITECT’S HOUSE DEATS:

Almost completed and pending its reveal with a full photoshoot in June, I’ve got some details to share from my last site visit.

This is the last phase with the whole lower ground floor overlooking Benenden rolling hills. Rooms include cinema room, separate his and her gym, her office, bathrooms and utility and store room as well as a lower living room.

Just working on the final touches with artwork.

LOCAL PRESS FEATURE:

So pleased to be featured in April’s

This project showcases our Sevenoaks Georgian villa, a home shaped by its architecture and designed around how our clients live.

By bringing together a mix of pieces from different eras, from Georgian antiques to mid-century and contemporary finds, it creates something layered, lived-in and true to the property’s heritage.

Our focus was on preserving and reinstating original features, while introducing elements that sit comfortably alongside them, nothing contrived, just thoughtful, considered design throughout.

A blank canvas. A clear brief.
And a client who trusted the vision.

The aim was simple: a dining room that flowed from the reception spaces, anchored by vintage pieces and hard-working joinery.

The copper light doors changed everything.
They feel like they’ve always belonged.

A dresser and bar form part of the bespoke storage, fully stocked for family dinners and special occasions with friends.

Behind the calm is careful planning.

Generous storage.

Clear circulation.

Fully accessible.

Everything considered.

Nothing overstated.

NOT ALL BATHROOMS ARE EQUAL...

Each one begins with the architecture of the house but the character often comes from a small twist: a colour, a vintage piece or a client-led idea that adds just enough edge.

For each project here that meant:

- A relaxed mid-century feel in a 1970s seaside chalet.

- Classical structure with an edgier finishes in a Decimus Burton house.

- Georgian symmetry with an unexpected colour combination.

We’ve just begun designing four bathrooms and a master bedroom in a 15th-century farmhouse, they will designed to a very different story again.

WAYS TO WORK WITH ME

Every project requires a different level of support.
Swipe to view the four levels of service I offer.

Whether you need full coordination from concept to completion, strategic input at key stages, detailed space planning, or a focused design review, there are different ways to support your project.

Over the years, we’ve worked with clients across Kent to guide whole-house renovations, complex reconfigurations and individual room transformations. Many return for second homes or later phases.

The common thread?
Clarity, structure, considered decisions and the desire for interiors that truly feel like theirs.

If you’re unsure which service best fits your project, book a complimentary discovery call via DM or email ([email protected]) to gain clarity on next steps and how best to move forward.

2015-2026: BEST OF HOUZZ!

Slightly pinching myself this week, I’ve just received Best of Houzz Design 2026 and I realised Barkerdesign has been recognised by since 2015!

Awards are never the aim but consistency always matters.

Our work is architecture-led: where spatial planning & ergonomics are considered first, followed by materials and curated pieces which are layered with restraint, so a home feels collected rather than installed.

Many of our projects are period renovations across Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, Kent and East Sussex. Led by timeless design, not trends and a managed process that protects the design intent through delivery.

Thank you to our clients for the trust, year after year.
