We have many superpowers, but making a decision based on the tiniest sample of fabric is not one of them. Even experienced interior designers want to see a full sample. Here’s why.

With this curtain and blind fabric, for example, the pattern repeat is large, so we need a full sample to check how the pattern will fall in our bespoke curtains. We also wanted to see how the light would fall through the fabric and how it would hang when pencil-pleated. All of which is near impossible with 10x10cm samples.

So, be honest, would you have guessed how beautiful this pattern is from the tiny sample? ❤️ = Yes, I have vision! 👎 = Not a chance

Chloe’s Quick Tips Part 3: Switch your Cushions

A limp, lifeless cushion is not inviting and can be a simple fix to reinvigorate your sofa. Synthetic fibres are great, until they aren’t. A pancake cushion not only looks sad but also lacks comfort. Switching out your synthetics for feather-filled is a quick fix to breathe new lie into your cushions. When you’re changing out, also make sure you size up- cushion inners should be 2 inches bigger than your covers so they always look plump and full and are perfect for the ‘karate chop’.

Not sure what size your cover is?

Take out the existing inner, turn your cover inside out and measure from side seam to side seam and top to bottom. Por tip: never measure with the inner in as you’ll accidentally measure the curve of the fabric on the outside and your measurements won’t be accurate. Record in inches as that’s the standard.

Feather-filled cushions are easy to reinvigorate- simply hold the corners and shake to get air back between the feathers- turn the cushion after a few shakes to distribute the feathers evenly.

Save this to revisit when you’re choosing your new cushions.

At this stage we’re begging you to rethink a trip to the big blue and yellow warehouse.

You’ve spent years dreaming of your new kitchen, months waiting for it to be installed and then once it’s in you whack up an Ikea Venetian blind?

Just No.

Beautiful rooms, wherever they are in the house deserve beautiful window fittings. Yes, even the kitchen. No bespoke oak cabinetry dreams of being sat below a plastic dust-trap.

Give your brand new kitchen the cherry on top that it deserves. We’ll wait for your DM.

Renovation’s like parenthood. No-one tells you until you’re in it.

It’s all fun and agmes until feel like you’re going 1 step forward, 3 (or 5) back.

And that’s normal. Here are the most common reasons we see people hating the process:

· Taking on too much in one go. It’s rare to renovate a whole house at once, despite what the internet shows you. Even real project houses happen in phases. If you’re trying to do everything, maybe it’s time to take a more phased approach.

· Decision fatigue sets in. Taking on multiple rooms means there are literally hundreds of decisions and very few of them are that fun or interesting. If you’re stuck in inertia with even simple decisions, you might need some professional help to keep things moving- one small decision like wiring can hold up a whole room.

· Unrealistic timelines. This is a biggie. Trying to get finished by a certain date (like a special birthday or Christmas) puts additional stress on the whole process. There are always hiccups that push the finish line. Trying to be more flexible with your end point can ease things significantly.

· Too many cooks. Builders, friends, parents, joiners, the milkman. Everyone’s going to have an opinion and it’s going to get LOUD. Time to develop your tunnel vision and stick to your guns. Your opinion is the only one that counts.

· Plan a contingency budget from as early as possible. Best case, you don’t need it. Worst case, it gets you out of a project-finishing bind.

Interior designers are as much project managers as they are pretty shelf stylists. Our job is to help you enjoy a home renovation not regret it. If you’ve started and are thinking “what the hell have we done?” it’s not too late to get help.

The Unexpected Red Theory strikes again.

When we designed this cosy sleeping area in our latest children’s bedroom project in Tunbridge Wells, we knew we needed a pop of colour against the Lulworth Blue. Enter this bold, bright wall lamp stage left. Playful enough to suit our school-age client right now and sophisticated enough to still be cool in the teen years.

No-one likes to admit they’re wrong, but bear with us on this one.

We see the same mistake again and again- the focus on how people want their rooms or house to LOOK. They pore over paint swatches, wallpapers, curtain fabrics and sofas. But, and we hate to say this, you’re asking yourself the wrong question.

When your focus is pulled by pretty things you lose sight of the only thing that should drive decisions about your home- how you want the space to FEEL.

There’s no point in having a beautiful navy kitchen if you find navy oppressive and dark. Your living room could be a cheery yellow but if it gives you a headache even imagining it, it’s not for you.

The starting point of every renovation should be- how do I want to FEEL in this space?

Told you it wasn’t rocket science, but it is important!

Whether this is a revelation or you’ve already settled on the mood you want to create, we can take care of the look.

Ever feel like your home should work… but something’s just slightly off?

Not because you’ve made the wrong choices, but because life has changed around it.

The room that once felt perfect now has to work harder. Spaces shift. Routines evolve. And suddenly, things don’t flow in quite the same way.

Most homes are designed for a moment in time. Not for real life as it unfolds.

On the blog, we’re sharing how to design a home that adapts with you - so it continues to feel right, even as things change. From flexible layouts to the small decisions that make a lasting difference, it’s about creating spaces that grow with you, not against you.

If your home feels like it’s almost there, this is well worth a read. Comment TIMELESS and we’ll send you the link.
