Part two

Time to Shine, an imposed class - 1st

According to the competitions manual an imposed is a class in which all the components (unknown to the competitor) are provided by the organisers.
Otherwise known as going in blind and making it up as you go along.

Given the size of the terracotta pot I started with the most dominant materials: the Sunflowers, Gladioli and Hosta leaves to start an outline, filling in with the other materials. I curled and added the wire to echo the colour of the Gladioli and give a sense of rhythm, and the loops to give some enclosed space and lighten the design.

Part one

Al fresco, a pedestal - Second

Al fresco translates from Italian to ‘in the cool air’ and so was the basis of this design. Using Sunflowers that are a major agricultural crop in Italy, as well as Gentiana and Poppy seed heads that are native to the highlands. Of course adding lemons and Rosemary to strengthen this interpretation.
In Italian slang al fresco can also translate to ‘in prison’ because old stone cells were famously cold and drafty. So my stone effect urn and plinth represent this part of the interpretation. The use of the grey foliage echoes this colour while providing a backdrop for the focal flowers to shine.

As of yesterday, I’m pleased to say that I’m now a qualified Area demonstrator as part of the Three Counties and South Wales Area of NAFAS.
From starting training 6 months ago in the snow to finishing in a heatwave it's been a challenge to say the least. These are my two designs from the test, a demonstration with the title ‘Revolutionary'.
Thank you to those wished me well along the way, it really means a lot.

Live Life in Full Bloom, a pedestal - GOLD and Best Young Arranger

Being a RHS show the use of floral foam is prohibited therefore the top placement is in wire and the bottom in a plastic grid.
