Yesterday I gave myself permission to work on something that wasn’t a YouTube video, a workshop or a painting.

It was just a little idea.

And, as often happens with little ideas, it quietly grew arms and legs.

Today, a mysterious envelope arrived.

A certain small bear appears to have become involved in a confidential recruitment assessment for a rather secretive organisation, and a young recruit has been tasked with an important mission.

I’m not going to share all the details because this little adventure belongs to our family…

…but I thought you might enjoy the occasional sneaky peek along the way.

It’s also reminded me that creativity doesn’t always have to look like a sketchbook or a canvas.

Sometimes it looks like stories.

Sometimes it looks like old envelopes and secret letters.

Sometimes it looks like creating a little bit of magic for someone you love.

And honestly, yesterday was one of the most creative days I’ve had in a very long time. ✨🧚‍♀️🐻📜

Yesterday I didn’t paint.

Instead, I accidentally spent the whole day creating something for my family.

It started as a little countdown to our summer adventure and somehow grew into the Dennis Family Adventure Society, with mysterious envelopes, stories and tiny family missions arriving every Thursday.

It reminded me that creativity isn’t always a paintbrush on paper.

Sometimes it’s making a little bit of magic for the people you love.

I think we sometimes forget that creating a memory, a tradition or a story counts too.

So I’m giving myself permission to call yesterday a wonderfully creative day. ✨🧚‍♀️

🌿✨ A little sneak peek behind the scenes in the membership… ☺️✨

For our June and July theme, we’re exploring Paths, Doorways & Hidden Places — slowly building a magical woodland world together over the summer.

This week we weren’t painting finished masterpieces.

We were simply playing in our sketchbooks.

🌳 Looking at tree shapes.
✏️ Exploring bark textures.
📚 Gathering ideas.
✨ Letting our imaginations wander a little.

Sometimes the best paintings begin with a simple pencil sketch and a couple of hours spent experimenting.

I love that these sessions give us permission to slow down, play, and see where creativity takes us.

This is just the very beginning, and I can’t wait to see how our magical woodland grows over the next few weeks ☺️🌿

And if you’ve ever been curious about what goes on behind the scenes in the membership, this is exactly the sort of thing we get up to.

The doors are always open, so if you’d like to know more, just send me a message ☕✨

🌿✨ Week One of the Tiny Doodle Diary… complete ☺️✏️✨

And do you know what?

It’s already reminding me why I wanted to start this little project.

Not because every doodle has been amazing.
Not because every page has become a masterpiece.

But because I’ve shown up.

Some days it has only taken five minutes.
Some days it’s just been a quick pencil sketch.
Some days it’s been a little note or a tiny idea for a bigger painting.

But every little mark has been one small step forward.

I’m really starting to believe that filling a sketchbook isn’t about finding huge amounts of time or waiting for the perfect idea.

It’s about building a gentle habit and giving ourselves permission to make a few marks whenever we can.

A week ago these pages were blank.

Now they’re slowly becoming a little record of thoughts, ideas, doodles and moments.

If you’re joining in too, I’d love to see how you’re getting on ☺️🌿

And if you’ve missed a day, or two days, or even the whole week…

Please don’t worry.

There are no rules.

Just turn the page, pick up a pencil, and start again.

Here’s to another week of tiny doodles, tiny steps, and a little bit of everyday magic ✨☕🌿

I’d love to see your Tiny Doodle Diary pages! ✏️🌿✨

Quite a few people have been asking how they can share their sketches, so here’s what we’re going to do…

If you’re posting on Instagram, please use the hashtag:

That way we can all follow the hashtag, see each other’s doodles, and cheer each other on. 🥰

You can also share your pages in the ElmandBee Art Hive here on Facebook. It’s a public group, so anyone can join in and post their Tiny Doodle Diary sketches there too.

Remember, this isn’t about perfect art.

A few marks.
A quick doodle.
A splash of colour.
A tiny creative moment.

That’s enough. 💛

I can’t wait to see what you’re creating.

Happy doodling! ✏️🌿

🌿✏️ Day Two of the Tiny Doodle Diary ✏️🌿

I managed to squeeze today’s doodle into my lunch break ☺️

I actually needed an idea for a larger sketchbook page, so I decided to use my doodle as a little bit of planning time.

Nothing complicated.
Nothing polished.

Just a couple of twisted enchanted trees and a pencil ✨🌳

Sometimes that’s all creativity needs.

A few minutes.
A blank page.
And permission to begin.

I think we often underestimate how much progress these tiny moments create over time.

Every sketch teaches us something.
Every mark builds confidence.
Every doodle is another step forward.

It doesn’t have to be a finished masterpiece to count.

In fact, some of my favourite paintings have started life as scruffy little sketches that nobody else was ever meant to see ☺️

And don’t worry… I won’t be sharing these every single day 😂🌿

But I will try to pop in regularly and share little glimpses along the way, partly to keep myself accountable and partly to gently encourage all of you too.

Tiny steps still move us forward.

Paint splashes, pencil scribbles and a little bit of magic ✨🌿

🌿✨ A little sneak peek behind the scenes… ✨🌿

While everyone sees the finished paintings, one of my favourite parts of the membership is that we often get to slow down and spend longer exploring ideas together.

Over the summer we’re heading into a new theme that I’m ridiculously excited about ☺️

Think:

🌿 winding woodland paths
🚪 hidden doors
🪟 tiny windows
🏮 glowing lanterns
🍄 mushrooms
🌸 secret gardens
✨ magical places tucked away where nobody else has noticed them yet

We’ll be sketching, gathering ideas, exploring textures and slowly building a larger project together over several live sessions.

I won’t reveal too much just yet… but these paintings might give you a little clue about the sort of world we’ll be wandering into 🌿✨

One of the lovely things about creating this way is that we’re not rushing to finish in a single evening.

We get to explore.
Experiment.
Add details.
Change our minds.
And let the artwork evolve naturally.

Sometimes the most magical places are the ones we build one tiny detail at a time ☺️🌿

Tiny Doodle Diary – Day 1 ☺️

Here’s my little doodle before bed tonight.

I wrote “Hello June”, added some cherry blossoms and cherries after a weekend spent gardening and planting a cherry tree, then finished it off with a little black cat, some mushrooms, giant flowers and a cowboy boot because it’s Monday and I’ve just come home from line dancing!

The lovely thing about the Tiny Doodle Diary is that it can be absolutely anything you want it to be.

A pencil sketch.
A doodle.
A page of circles.
A few triangles.
A splash of paint.
A collage.
A scrap of journalling.
A leaf you found on a walk.

There are no rules and no pressure.

And despite the name, it doesn’t have to be daily. We’re calling it a Tiny Doodle Diary rather than a Daily Doodle Diary because the goal isn’t perfection or streaks. The goal is simply to give ourselves a tiny moment of creativity whenever we can.

Use a sketchbook, an old diary, scrap paper, the back of an envelope, a notebook you’ve had sitting in a drawer for years… whatever you have to hand.

I’m going to try and fill this little planner one tiny doodle at a time and see where it takes me.

If you’d like to join in, I’d love to see what you create. ☺️

So just relax, play, create… and you will make something magical. ✨🧚‍♀️🍄

✨ Tomorrow we begin ✏️🌿

Not a challenge.
Not a competition.
Not another thing to get perfect.

Just a tiny daily invitation to create.

One doodle.
One sketch.
One mark.
One moment.

That’s all ☺️

I have a feeling some of the most magical things grow from the smallest beginnings.

Who’s joining me tomorrow? ✏️ 📖 ✨🧚‍♀️🎨
