Group fun!

There’s always something special about people coming together to create. Powertex workshops are always full of that spark ✨
I've shared some of my recent workshops yesterday with Sarah and my family in Normandy, and today, I'd like to show you a little throwback to a workshop held in 2022 at Brunswick Gardens Retirement Village.
The goal was to create spooky Halloween bottles to decorate the tables for the Halloween party.
We did that over 2 sessions, and all 10 ladies enjoyed themselves thoroughly, learning to create the textures, adding the colours and the lights :) These bottles looked wonderful 🤩

✨🌟Star Students Shout-Out (part2)

Part 2 of the Star Students Shout-Out is dedicated to a trio of little humans & their grandmother, who are part of my family in Normandy 😄🇫🇷
We did a workshop last year, and another one this April while I was holidaying in France. We spent a whole day Powertexing, their sheer enthusiasm was an absolute pleasure! They embraced Powertex, and really created their pieces themselves.

Well done to: Raphaël, 7, who made the seahorse. Emma, 11, and her African lady, who, I'm told, is named Georgette. And Inès, 12, who created Aurore, the etheral creature in green and gold hues.
Last but not least, well done to Marylène who made Grace, the red-haired lady with the pearly crinoline, and fed us really well 🤣

✨🌟Star Students Shout-Out (part1)

One of the best parts of being a Certified Powertex Tutor is watching my students create, and how their confidence and creativity grows with each workshop.
In this first part, I'm going to celebrate Sarah, Lacey's human/devoted staff member. Sarah's creativity has grown a lot from that first bottle she created. At first, there was an utter drive for perfectionism and precision, combined with a slight fear of new techniques (remember when I told you I wouldn't be doing the statue along with you that time? 😀). Now, she has absolutely embraced Powertex, and is creating magnificent pieces on her own 😊
Sarah, you do make me proud! 🤩 This reminds me why I love this work. It's not just the materials, it's about people, it's about all the fun we have creating together.

Here's Sarah's shoe! How amazing is the texture and the colours. And a bonus picture of Lacey, aka Miss Fluff Butt, who loves to supervise everything when they come to Sheffield 🐕

My portfolio🎨

As we continue in the challenge, I wanted to take a moment to celebrate some of the work I’ve created with this incredible medium that is Powertex 😍
Here's a tiny sample of my work - each piece teaches something new, and together they reflect how far I’ve come as an artist and a tutor.
Powertex has allowed me to explore the artistic side I didn't think I had (after all, I can't draw, so I couldn't qualify as an artist, right... right? WRONG! 😄) and some themes that just call to me, for what they represent, their colours, and the wide array of art that can be produced with them.

What do you think, is there a piece here that stands out to you?

🐋Finish Line Focus!
This is Bob. Bob the Whale, or in French, Bob la Baleine.🐳

Bob was created during the Powertex retreat in April this year
I've used driftwood & paper deco for the base. Bob himself is shaped out of foil, and has been covered in a clay/paste that's a mix of transparent Powertex and a Powertex Secret Art Loft sand.
Inks and pigments were used for colouring.

He was both very challenging but fantastic to create😄 The shaping of the foil was complex, but Michele's guidance was great! The clay required some adjustment: it's a very heavy clay, and the front of Bob kept falling off 😁 But that's part of the learning experience, discovering new materials, adapting & adjusting your approach and the way you create.

It's extremely rewarding to see Bob in his final location: the backyard!

What do you think of Bob? Is it the kind of piece you would try?

Apart from Powertex, our household is a proud owner of a laser cutter/engraver. I cut a lot of my own embellishments that I use with my Powertex creations, as well as bases such as tags, frames, etc.
I'm always happy to discuss specific requirements :) From cogs, to pole dancers (you know who you are 🤣), to horses, to "baby shower stuff" to create a newborn-related piece of art (you know who you are as well 🤣), the range is wide!

Pricing depends on the number of embellishments or the complexity of the design and cuts, but for simple embellishments such as the ones in the picture, count between £3 and £5 for an A5 sheet.

Note that I do not use any copyrighted materials on my work, such as football club logos, famous animated characters of the rodent variety, etc.
I will happy produce engravings or cuts with your own logo, though 🙂

🤩Style Swap!

Today, on , let's talk about style swap, or getting out of your comfort zone.

During my Level 4 training, I was challenged by Debbie (Pipistrelle Studio, our Yorkshire-based trainer and Powertex Mummy! :D) to leave my greens and blues behind, and to be bold, to explore a color palette I rarely used...
I looked around her studio and some of her ochre pieces caught my eye, so I went for that.

Here's the result: a mixed media piece on foam board, with black powertex, brushed with white, and the addition of yellow ochre, red ochre, some very faint traces of gold, some red pigments, and rusy powder.

Biggest Lesson Learned

I've learned a lot with Powertex, but one of the biggest lesson is: Trust the Simplicity

You can achieve amazing effects and results with simple supplies. You don't need to have all the embellishments in the world, you don't need the finest and most original fabric textures.

Here's an example in simplicity: a book box, kitchen roll and a bit of powercotton around the head.
Kitchen roll, coupled with Powertex, is fantastic for leather / old grimoire effects
