FS Knife – 2nd Pattern Beaded & Ringed

Needing a high quality, handmade FS Knife for admiration or Service? This rare grip variant of the classic Fairbairn Sykes Commando Dagger (FS Knife), is now available to order! The Beaded & Ringed grip was revived after over 80 years using an original for the base measurements, recreated and cast in bronze using the Lost Wax technique.

Prototype 2nd pattern complete!

This will specifically be the workshop copy but I am officially taking (strictly limited to 10 at a time) orders now for 2nd pattern Beaded & Ringed FS daggers. I am THE only maker creating this handle type, the last time these were made was over 80 years ago

Grip dimensions taken from an original and a fair bit of research in the background to bring the rest of it to life, including the sheath.

The brass chape isn't permanently secured on this as I need to make copies yet, but this would be secured with with either wire or a small cap rivet much like the originals would have been.

I'll be contacting those who emailed interest in ordering one as I have 1 that will soon be fully completed and available for purchase

£600 for polished bronze finish with hand cut and sewn leather sheath. Custom laser engraving priced per order

Not the neatest, but forging stainless is a pain in the fud!

The grinder will do the rest of the shaping on this next week.

Getting a handle on things this evening..

Some ancient bog oak on this Heritage dagger . More shaping yet to come and then the companion shortsword will get the same treatment 😊🔥

Hand sanding of this heritage shortsword.
This has presented a few issues throughout the build, but I'm confident now of it's composition and the companion dagger was also a success!

Time to sand this up and forge the fittings of each blade towards completion. I'm really looking forward to etching these to see the patterns! After all these grind lines are away of course 🥲

This is where music choice shines most!

Now do I go high energy EDM or move towards something with a Hurdy Gurdy in it? Choices..

Another set of chisels sharpened along with the clients planer blade. Took a wee while to get the latter reset, but it'll be as good as new with the work out in front of it!

The prototype 2nd pattern FS sheath is completed, a few wee bits here and there I'll adjust but now I can crack on with the first 2 that have been sold!

This will get a brass chape at the foot of the sheath to complete it but that's a task for another day.

Before and after on my clients knives in for sharpening. These have really been through the wringer but are shaving sharp once more and ready for many more years of use!
