I love to hate this machine-my over locker. When she’s working well she’s amazing and does such a neat stitch, securing the edges of fabric. But when the thread goes it’s a nightmare to sort! Today was a good day and things worked well. Enjoy 😊

Its the little details of the side returns on this roman blind. Fitted outside the recess the integral fabric returns cover the headrail giving the bespoke finish. My customer chose this beautiful fabric after visiting my studio to look through my fabric books. I had a roman blind already made up in this fabric, ready to be fitted and they fell in love with it. It’s the Rosalee fabric in pastel colour way from Warwick Fabrics UK

There’s something special about a curtain or blind that has been made by hand. Most of my work is hand stitched. It allows me to take my time with the finer details and make your soft furnishings bespoke. Every detail is carefully thought about the finishing touches are what you don’t get with mass produced items. (I’m not knocking mass produced, there is a place for it, but it’s just not for me in my work room!)

Sheer fabrics particularly benefit from hand stitched hems, so there’s no continuous stitch line showing, especially as they are not lined.

Still photos are definitely needed for this beautiful collaboration of window dressings that I recently made and fitted in a stunning Cheshire cottage, snuggled down a private lane overlooking the rolling countryside. The curtains, heavily interlined and the piped padded pelmet are made from the gorgeous Frances: hand embroidered fabric Bishna fabric. This hand-embroidered, textured crewelwork, linen fabric with has a soft floral pattern hung beautifully along side the roman blind. I made the blind in Warwick Fabrics UK Flexi fWarwick Fabrics UKourway. This plain fabric which has a textured weave, pulled out the colour from the Bishna fabric perfectly. The piping on the pelmet completed the lovely combination together perfectly.

My solid, stationary industrial sewing machine decided to take a dislike to a very thick fabric recently and needed surgery from my machine man. I therefore had to call on my old trusty steed, my domestic Janome sewing machine. And she did the job very well. It did mean I had to stand up on the job and the camera showed many an unflattering angle of me, but the job got don! It was not this fabric that caused the original issues. The lovely fabric that I was using to make the pinch pleat header was from , it was the Trinity in pastel colourway. The finished result was 👌 but that’s for another day!

The music says it all for me! The elated feeling I get when I pull a roman blind up for the first time and it pleats and sits exactly how it should. I’m a perfectionist and seeing the pleats all perfectly cascading- well that’s my job done! Happiness!!!

Fabric is from the Liviski fabric in smoke colourway. The blind is lined with bonded lining and DB1 lining

I’ve had the best two days at 10th anniversary luxury interior design show at the beautiful . It’s been full of of inspiration, knowledge, advice, productivity, networking, socialising, and business. I’ve made some lovely new friends in the industry and I’ve listened to talks from knowledgeable people in their field.
There was a wonderful talk from David Mottershead of , talking all about colour, a podcast recording, covering the subject of ‘you think you are an interior designer’. The bubbly and inspirational talked about her beautiful fabrics, colour and the future of design and there was even a guest appearance from Patrick Grant who had some wonderful stories to tell and finally Ryan and Mark from with such business acumen offering their knowledge and advice.
It truly was the best two days with so many wonderful people.
I am so honoured to know the wonderful Cath, the main person behind design Central. She is an inspiration to me, the person who’s always been there giving me advice, answering any questions and her knowledge of the industry is beyond words. She is such a mentor to me and so valuable to my business. Cath and all your team, THANK YOU so much for everything you’ve done these last two days. Ryan, Mark and you’ve been pretty special too.
Congratulations on your 10th year Design Central.

Have you ever wondered what goes into creating a handmade box cushion? 🪡🧵✂️

It’s so much more than stitching fabric together. Firstly I took a template of this huge window seat space to get it all accurate. Then there’s the careful measuring and cutting to piping, sewing and the final fit, every stage takes time, precision and attention to detail.

This box cushion measured 260cm long and 80cm deep. That’s a huge peice of foam and so much fabric to negotiate, especially when it’s bigger than my cutting table! The fabric, a stunning neutral colourway was chosen and to keep up with the safety regulations was fire retardant. Did you even know that was a requirement?

Enjoy watching to see this box cushion come to life, one step at a time…
