Back from holiday and straight into designing!

This week I’m working on a lovely mix of projects - developing living room schemes, creating multifunctional spaces that really work for everyday life and designing bespoke cabinetry to make the most of every inch.

There’s also plenty of sourcing going on, from fabrics and paint colours to finishes, furniture and all those smaller details that help bring a scheme together.

Lots happening behind the scenes and it’s lovely to be back at my desk.

SketchUp is such a useful part of my design process.

It’s where ideas start to come to life, taking a layout from a 2D plan to a 3ad space and helping both myself and client visualise how a room will look and feel.

It’s also a great way to explore different layouts, proportions, furniture placement and bespoke joinery before making final decisions.

There is still plenty of design work that happens away from the screen - samples, colours and all the little details but SketchUp is a brilliant tool for helping clients see the vision before work begins.

Hi, I’m Katie, the interior designer behind Interiors By Catherine.

I’ve been working in the interiors industry for over 10 years, with experience across residential design, property development, hospitality and furniture design.

I’ve been lucky enough to work on all types of projects taking them from those first ideas right through to installation and finishing touches.

For me, interior design isn’t just about making a space look good. It’s about understanding how you live, taking away some of the overwhelm and creating a home that feels completely personal to you.

It’s the small checks that give clients the confidence and ensure that every element complements the next.

One of my favourite parts of the design process is bringing together samples of flooring, fabrics and paint to make sure they work beautifully together. Seeing materials side by side helps create a scheme that’s balanced, cohesive and timeless before any decisions are made.

A great visit last week to showroom to see the products in real life.

There is nothing quite like seeing the materials, finishes and proportions in person - it makes all the difference when specifying the perfect fireplace for a client’s home.

It was also lovely to meet Lianne, who was absolutely fantastic and so knowledgeable. Looking forward to working together on future projects ✨
