This is what a wardrobe looks like when the seasons change and nothing has been sorted. Clothes everywhere, shoes all over the floor and no idea what you actually have or where anything is.

We went through everything together, decluttered any unwanted spring and summer pieces and carefully stored away the summer clothes ready for next year. What was left was organised properly so everything is easy to find and easy to get to.

Same space. Completely different feeling. Going into autumn knowing your wardrobe is ready for the new season is such a good feeling.

Tips for an organised home

1. Everything needs a home. If an item doesn’t have a designated spot it will always end up somewhere it shouldn’t be.
2. Label everything. It sounds simple but it means the whole family knows where things live and where they go back.
3. Declutter regularly. Things build up quickly, especially with kids. A quick sort through every few months stops it getting on top of you.
4. Create zones. Keep like with like so everything is easy to find and easy to put away.
5. Don’t try to do it all at once. Pick one room or one space and start there. Small wins lead to big changes.

A new school year means a new routine and for a lot of families that change can feel a bit overwhelming, especially for the kids.

Having an organised home makes such a difference at this time of year. Knowing exactly where the uniform is, having school bags in the right place, shoes by the door and everything labelled and ready to go takes so much stress out of the morning rush.

My son is autistic and finds it very difficult to let go of things, and Liz was incredibly understanding of this throughout the process. I also loved that she took everything away at the end of the session which made the whole experience so much easier. I would definitely recommend The Neat Company.”

The summer holidays are wonderful but the dining table somehow becomes a dumping ground for every craft project, game and piece of Lego going. Sound familiar?
