VOICES IN ART
Artist Feature | Piotr Gargas
Some artists shape stone.
Others shape emotion.
For sculptor Piotr Gargas, the two are inseparable.
For this edition of Voices in Art, I had the pleasure of speaking with sculptor Piotr Gargas, whose work beautifully bridges traditional craftsmanship and contemporary artistic expression.
Born in Poland and trained in stone sculpture, Piotr has dedicated his life to exploring the relationship between material, form, and human emotion. His sculptures reveal a profound understanding of balance, movement, and the silent language of shape.
When asked about his artistic philosophy, Piotr reflected on the importance of honouring tradition while embracing innovation:
"I love the balance between tradition and innovation."
Alongside traditional carving techniques, Piotr embraces contemporary technologies, allowing ancient skills and modern possibilities to coexist within his creative practice.
One of the themes that resonates deeply throughout his work is transformation.
"We are all shaped by life, experience, time, love and suffering, just as clay is shaped by the artist's hands."
For Piotr, sculpture is more than an object; it is a reflection of the human journey. Through stone, marble, wood, and clay, he seeks to create works that invite contemplation, connection, and emotional response.
When I asked what he hopes visitors experience when standing before his sculptures, three words emerged:
✨ Connection
✨ Silence
✨ Reflection
His work reminds us that art does not always need to speak loudly to be powerful.
"Art should not only be seen. It should be felt."
Thank you, Piotr, for sharing your story, your insights, and your artistic voice with us.
