Can random be controlled? Absolutely.
Whilst clearly a contradiction in terms, controlled random matching is a skilled technique which combines the organic, characterful qualities of natural wood with highly curated leaf-to-leaf positioning. This seamless integration of grain and colour creates a high quality wood finish with an overall harmonious aesthetic.
By combining multiple veneer leaves in this way, we can outwit nature on two levels; size and colour. We can create a large sheet size in widths impossible to find in nature, and, with Tabu dye technology, we can control colour. So one sheet can be effortlessly juxtaposed with another to create an impressive large run of natural wood.
Veneer leaves within a single log vary widely in grain and width, from those cut from the outer edge of a tree to those from the centre, but with this matching process more of the veneer bundle can be used.
Added to this, the layon is pre-trimmed. These straight lines make for more streamlined, faster application. By also eliminating the need for on-site matching, there is a significant time and cost saving - a huge advantage for contract fit-out projects where speed and efficiency are so important.
