One of the biggest misconceptions about interior design is that we begin with how a home should look.

We don’t.

Before we start discussing paint colours, furniture or individual rooms, we look at the foundations of how the home will work.

Layout. Flow. Light. Function.

How does the family live now? What isn’t working? How do they want to use the home in five or ten years? How should one space connect to the next?

These decisions might not be the most immediately visible part of a finished project, but they influence almost every decision that follows.

For us, it’s structure before style.

Because when the foundations are properly considered, the beautiful decisions that come afterwards have a reason for being there.

If you’re considering a significant renovation, this is the thinking we believe should happen before the finishes are chosen. Contact us to discuss yours! 📨

A closer look at the playroom before final snagging 👀

At this stage, the bigger picture is almost complete, which means our attention turns to the details.

The joinery. The finishes. The little decisions that bring everything together and make the room feel considered as a whole.

There are still a few final pieces to complete before styling and handover, but we couldn’t resist sharing some of the details up close.

Because “nearly finished” is when you really start to see the design come to life.

If you’re planning a renovation or rethinking your family home and want to get the design right from the very beginning, we’d love to hear about your project.

The finished space might be what you see, but some of the most important decisions are made months before you get anywhere near choosing cushions or styling shelves.

For me, these three come early:

📐 The layout and flow
How you actually move through and live in a space has to work before we think about how it looks.

💡 The lighting plan
Where lighting sits, what it highlights and how the space needs to feel at different times of day can completely transform the finished design.

🪵 The materials and finishes
Getting the balance of texture, tone and materials right from the beginning creates the layers that make an interior feel considered rather than simply decorated.

These decisions aren’t always the exciting Instagram moments.

But they’re often the difference between a beautiful room and a home that feels like it was designed properly from the very beginning. 🤍

What does the day-to-day of a bespoke interior designer actually look like?

It’s definitely not all beautiful samples and finished room reveals. 👀

A big part of my role happens right here, on site, checking in on the progress of our renovation projects and making sure the design we’ve spent months developing is being translated properly into the finished space.

Three things you might not realise:

✨ I’m involved long before the furniture arrives.
Layouts, finishes, lighting, joinery, materials and all those tiny details that eventually make a space feel considered.

📐 Site visits are a huge part of the process.
Checking progress, answering questions, reviewing details and spotting anything that needs adjusting while it can still be adjusted.

🤝 There are a LOT of moving parts.
Contractors, suppliers, trades, deliveries and decisions all need to come together at the right point.

The finished interiors might be the part you see most on here, but this is a very real part of creating them.

And seeing a project we’ve worked on from the early design stages actually taking shape never gets old. 🤍

Special delivery… 📦✨

Some very lovely parcels are en route to a client, filled with samples for their new en-suite design.

We’ve narrowed the direction down to two very different options…

🌿 Green
🍷 Deep red

This is where the design really starts to come together. Seeing the colours, textures and finishes physically in the space makes such a difference and allows the client to make a much more confident decision before we move forward.

Both would create a completely different feel in the room, and I already have a favourite… 👀

Which would you choose, green or deep red?
