Great kids' room design isn't about the biggest s**ce or the boldest theme, it's about making smart choices that serve the child who lives there.

In George's room, that meant bold striped walls for personality, a built-in corner desk to protect precious floor s**ce, with Lego and football details chosen just for him. Every decision, made with him in mind.

This room was the start of an organically evolving beautiful home transformation.

The client works from home, and his office had stopped motivating him. It wasn't working, the one s**ce that should have powered his days was sapping his mojo.

So we went looking for a feeling. He told us what he wanted the room to do for him, and the idea that stuck was a captain's quarters. The powerhouse of the home. Somewhere you sit down and feel in command of your day.

Everything grew from there. Cladding on the walls for the lines of a ship. A captain's chair with real presence. Colour drenched deep in Dragon's Blood, walls and joinery in one rich sweep, the kind of dark you'd find below deck.

The desk and storage were built to the room's exact footprint, so a small s**ce holds everything it needs, and we sourced an antique cabinet for the trinkets and memorabilia that matter to him. Brass door furniture to warm the red. Curtains and a pelmet, made to measure, to soften the edges.

This was the first room. He enjoyed the process so much that one office turned into four rooms: his son's bedroom, the master bedroom, and a whole new kitchen with extension. Each one designed around a feeling of its own.

Soft Linen Sands had a real challenge - not much floor to spare. The brief was to take a small s**ce and make it work like a much bigger one.

Small rooms have a habit of feeling boxy, so we built this one up in layers. Linen hung floor to ceiling, deep cushions piled on the daybed, a fringed pendant with real weight to it, texture in every corner your eye lands on. It feels cosy and considered rather than tight.

To really make this s**ce work hard, we designed a hoist that lifts the bed clear when it's not in use, so the room has its floor back for the day. Sleep in it at night, raise it in the morning, and you've got a proper living s**ce again.

Some pieces are new and some we procured - all are the kind you don't find by scrolling or walking a showroom.
