One of the best circular mountain hikes in Wales? This Cadair Idris route in Eryri came in at 10.75km with 898m of climbing ⛰️

It personally took 6 hrs 32 mins, although that includes far too many stops for photos and videos 😂 Absolutely stunning from start to finish.

Why is there a 54-foot stone pillar on top of Breidden Hill in Powys?

Rodney’s Pillar was built in 1781 to honour Admiral George Brydges Rodney, at a time when Montgomeryshire was supplying oak to the Royal Navy. But the story is much more complicated than that. Rodney’s greatest naval victory had not even happened when the pillar was built, and his legacy includes both celebrated victories and some deeply controversial actions.

Nearly 250 years later, the Grade II* listed monument is now structurally unstable and fenced off. Whatever we think of the man it commemorates, should we preserve the monument and the history it represents?

Above Tanygrisiau in North Wales is the Wrysgan Quarry Incline, informally known as the Stairway to Heaven, a remarkable piece of Welsh slate mining history.

This huge 19th-century railway incline was used to move slate from Wrysgan Quarry towards the Ffestiniog Railway. Today the rails are gone, leaving behind the incredible stone incline and tunnel that people sometimes mistake for a giant staircase.

One of the most fascinating pieces of abandoned industrial history I’ve found while exploring Wales.
